First Hanger Steak

I made my first hanger steak last night. Marinated it and cooked it at 550 dome for about 3-4 minutes per side;

The steak was very good. Notice how it is cut longways against the grain:

Also made some shrimp. EVOO, seasoned salt, and some mystery seasoning from my brothers pantry - 2 minutes a side at 350 dome til just barely pink:

super macro focus here

Wish there were more shrimp, they were gone in about 1 minute!

The steak looks perfect, how was it? What did you marinade in?

Very nice Faith. My stupid butcher doesn't even know what a hanger steak is so I have never been able to try one. Have a safe & happy 4th. Mark

Can someone explain what a hanger steak is!! I've shopped a lot of super markets and never seen them, unless they are sold under a different name !!!!

JB, it was great. Very flavorful and I loved the texture of it. I used this marinade:

Served it on warm flour tortilas, with fresh pico de gallo and cheese.
Marc, if there is a Rest. Depot in your area, they usually have it. Hungryman went to the one in Ft. Lauderdale last weekend and brought a bunch back. I think he said it was $2 per lb!!!

I looked it up on wikipedia. There is only one per cow, and the butcher usually saves it for himself.

congrats on the great looking hanger steak. ..my favorite!!!.. .and yes, you absolutely sliced it perfectly. .. way to go!!!
another convert. ..only problem with giving out the secrets of the hanger steak, is that it probably won't be long before it heads up over 10bucks a pound as it gets more popular. .. -
Now I know what a hanger steak is:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Thanks Faith.

Great job Faith!! I LOVE hanger steaks!! I just bought some at Restaurant Depot yesterday. They're only $2.99/lb there. Beats the $6.99 at the local grocer. Those shrimp look pretty tasty too.
Have a great 4th!! -
Looks good Faith, what did you marinade it in. I use Wishbone Robust Italian for KC strip steaks.

Hey, My friend Dale, AKA Woodbutcher, has served Hanger Steak before. He says it comed from the middle part of a beef, like the diaphragm. I have my doubts. I was trying to convince him that it was from part of the anatomy that "hangs" from the steer. This is why it's called a hanger steak, and there's only one per animal.
It is extremely flavorful and tender however.

Pretty much no one in Tampa has them. I found one on the east side of Hillsborough county. Too far to drive. Most places never have heard of them. I got mine in Ft. Laud. while visiting.
