New Gasket - New Material - Availabilty
Rollocks
Posts: 576
There has been several discussions on this forum regarding the availability of replacement gaskets mad of a new material. I have checked with 2 of the 3 retailers in my area regarding this. One said he would check on it , yet after repeated inquires I have yet to get an answer from him. The second retailer promptly checked with his distributor and was told that all the gasket they had were the old felt type.
Does anyone have any insight on how to get the new one. My gasket on the XL is pretty shoddy and needs a replacement. I don't want to have replace it again in 2 years so I would like to get the new material. My small egg's gasket is in pretty good condition, but I figured if I upgrade one I just do them both at the same time.

this is just a guess, but I bet that there are significant stock piles of the old grey gasket material. The dealers will be trying to get rid of the old grey gasket material before the new gasket becomes widely available.

You should call BGE headquarters to ask about this. There is currently available a new gasket made from Nomex which you should be able to get from headquarters. The Naked Whiz

Well if thats the only way to get one, I guess I'll reluctantly accompany my wife to Atlanta to visit her sister. Every time she make me go to Atlanta, I seem to make it the egg store and purchase an egg.
Any suggestions on what to add to my collection. I currently have an XL, a small and a chiminea. Good thing I've been saving up my egg money.

Rollocks,
A while ago I put up and or responded to several posts stating that all new eggs would be shipped with Nomex and that all dealers should have the Nomex in stock.
I spoke 'out of school' and as I understand those comments are not the case at this point in time.
Your best bet would be to call BGE and asking for the Nomex for your XL.
I did receive a large Nomex kit but the medium was not in stock at that time. I am not sure about the XL size.
Good eggin,

When I asked my dealer two weeks ago for the Nomex gasket they knew nothing about but said they had gaskets in stock. The look on his face was oh crap if it becomes well known I'll be eating our stock. BGE may be trying to do a rolling change to avoid them or the dealers eating the felt inventory. My dealer stinks. It has been a week and a half and I haven't heard anything about the gasket. My gasket doesn't leak yet but 3/4 of it is burned away in one spot.

Do you know they now have a plate setter for the small and 4 bags BGE lump were$50 when I got mine last month. My dealer here in Melbourne Fl gets $22/bag. So took fewer suitcases for a weekl in the Atlanta area and the 4 fit puurectly in the trunk. Saved shipping costs.

I saw that trunk & car. You could not have fit another toothpick in there edgewise. LOL But you did save a bunch of shipping.

I asked my dealer also a few weeks ago and he new nothing about the gasket.

TNW,
A few weeks back when someone was asking about this very topic I had posted to get a Rutland gasket and be done with it. Several people posted that the Rutlands weren't safe and then you posted you were waiting to hear back from someone. Ever find out? Do I need to remove the Rutland off mine and get one from BGE?
Thanks for all you do TNW!!!

The gaskets on my Medium and my Small are totally fried.
But, I have no trouble sustaining cooks, and no smoke is ooooozing out...
Sounds like I'm still good-to-go!

Did you get the email I sent you Saturday?

I know that the NOMEX is available at the mothership. I do not know what dealers or distributors have it. I do know that a lot of them are asking for it. I can also see a lot of them as someone speculated; may be sitting on an inventory of the felt ones and want to sell them before bringing in the new Nomex.
Still no complaints from my end of the gasket yet.

Mitch,
I got my gasket the other day for the large. I am going to wait to install until the nighs get warmer. Too cold and too much snow right now.
We have had about 450" of snow fall in mountains this year and avoe 95" here at the house in the last 45 days. Snowed this morning and will again tomorrow. Still eggin though.

Kent,
Sounds as if a little snow is stopping you. That's why they make garages. Just kidding!

the "old" grey felt type of gasket is perfectly serviceable. the problem was with a limited run of gaskets applied with the wrong glue, and that glue gave way at lower temps. the felt wasn't the problem.
the felt never failed, it was the adhesive. my understanding is the issue also was limited to gaskets actually applied to the egg in the factory before purchase, not an issue with replacement gaskets.
any felt replacement gasket your dealer has should be as good as an "old" felt gasket.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
Just had a green event last weekend in the bay area. The dealer told us he just got in the new novex material for gaskets.
