hinge flat bar

The instructions indicate to install the big green egg hinge flat bar on top. I have seen internet pictures with it on the bottom. This seems to result in a lower mount on a flat surface like a granite counter top.

What is wrong with doing this?

With the flat bar of the hinge on top, the dome moves back as it is raised, moving the exposed gasket of the dome away from the fire. With the hinge upside down, the dome would more forward as it was raised, exposing the gasket to more of the fire. There may be other issues with the geometry, but that's an obvious one.
