Newbie here....I just dropped $950 on an XL. The only regret that I have is that I didn't do it 2 gas grills and one barrel smoker ago. This thing is so versatile. I am starting on my table for it in the morning. If I can figure out how to post pics...I will put some up.

Oh, you say that in jest ! Would you have done it any differently ? Like I say, at least someone is enjoying it.

This was a fun post. I think there are plenty of post here to justify getting an EGG. Don't just look at the cost but in the long run you won't have to buy another one, unless you want another and another and another. Enjoy the first one.

You are right Gary, and I wouldn't change it at all. Actually, I think it is so cool that someone likes something I cook enough that they would even request it.
  • Here are at least two reasons:

If there is an Eggfest near you, the new eggs used at the fest are sometimes sold as "demo eggs" after the party. These once used eggs are usually sold at a discounted rate, and they are already put together.

is the discounted rate enough to justify going a loooong distance and having to bring it back in a truck or Tahoe? We may be going thru PA in September when the fest is there so it could be a possibility --

I want one so much I can taste all the things you all are cooking and I still have trouble loosening the purse strings for it -- yeah yeah I am cheap - I will spend more to get quality like the egg but it is hard for me to spend the money - if that strikes a cord with anyone else

  • Im an accountant and Im cheap, two characteristics that lead me to be extremely stingy, just ask my wife! but if you really are looking to invest in an egg and question if your finances can handle it, then I would wait, I love my bge and use it all the time. It took me nearly a year to where I could afford one and thats when I discovered purchasing one at a local eggfest for $200 less then normal. One way to ensure you can afford a nice egg is to budget your money and seek ways to save your money. Maybe you can reduce playing golf so often or play at a public course during twilight hours, plan your meals out for the week and avoid hitting up Chilis at the last minute because your family has nothing to eat. Buying in bulk at Sams Club or Costco has reduced my wife's and I food budget by nearly 30%. Their is a multitude of ways to save more of the money you make and can lead to peace of mind when buying a big ticket item. But if you buy an egg and dump 1000 dollars into it (which is pretty easy!) and next month you have a major repair or worse get laid off at work, your going to be in a bind and resent buying that big green egg. But when you do decide that buying one is financially feasible your will love it. Just look at all these awesome people who have a wonderful hobby. Hope i didn't rant to much but just something to think about.

Egghead - for me I'm just cheap - I can afford an egg - I just hate opening the purse strings to take the money out And add to that fact - I am going to have to buy a new fridge and stove soon (old house everything bought at the same time so they are dying at the same time- and being cheap I won't buy until they are dead) :P But that being said is also why I will buy quality and spend more so it will be the thing that will last and be used for ages.

So I will dither for awhile (especially since it seems I can't go into a store and say I'm going to buy one of these from you or from so and so who can do the best on price) and will wonder why I dithered so long after I buy it
