XL table questions

I'm having a friend build the table for my XL. Looking at the plans for the XL table from BGE, it says that 12.5" is the measurement from the top of the bottom shelf to the top of the table. I would like my XL to sit nearly flush with the top of the table, and not stick up like this,
When figuring in the feet, and a 1" paver, what would you guys use for a measurement between the shelves? I'm thinking +3.5" or 4" for a total of 16" or 16.5" between top and bottom shelves to make the egg nearly flush, with the paver and feet....anyone with a similar table that could chime in?

You'll need to take into consideration the hinges during the opening and closing. Mine was built about an inch less than listed and the hinge would hit and the lid not open.
Give it a dry run before screwing it down. -
Two things, to fit flush you will need to cut out a space for the hinges. Also, when setting the egg down into the hole (I assume you will set just the base down into the hole because it will be so much lighter) the two guys lowering the egg will have something to hold on to.

You have to allow for the hinges. I also discovered that the hinge rotates downward slightly when you open the lid so you'll need to allow for that too.

To get the Egg low in the table, you can also let the hinge operate over the back of the table.
