I am thinking about buying a meat slicer. Was wondering if you purchased one and don't use it as much as you thought. I am on the fence here, and don't know which way to fall

While we do not use ours a lot I am glad we have it because when we do use it, it works great...It is kind of like the KA meat grinder attachment...I love it when I use it and I am glad I have it...
:silly: -
What kind do you have?

i use mine, did up a 16 pound top round a couple weeks back and a 12 pound ham, had whatever wasnt eaten for those two cooks dinners sliced into deli sandwihiches during a 9 day two boat trip. dont need it every month, but when i do it works out well. maybe sliced up 10 pounds of roast beef for under 4 dollars a pound for that trip, whats roast beef cost at the deli now.
one trip paid for about half the cost of the slicer. it also gives you the ability to make pastrami and canadian bacon, the canadian bacon foodsavers well for those sunday morning breakfasts. ive had it for several years now, maybe use it a dozen times a year but i wouldnt do without it fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
I have a 1/2hp Globe commercial unit that I use all the time, but I make A LOT of bacon(175lb/ytd)and pastrami. I am also buy my steak bulk(whole ribs)and unsliced to save money and then slice it myself so I'm probably not the norm. Mark

heres a tip for pastrami, roll and tie it first before cooking so it fits nicer on sandwhiches. mines a ritter, i dont think they sell them in this country anymore, a few of us bought them on closeout on ebay a few years back

I don't use mine because I absolutely hate it, it is almost impossible to clean. I'm looking for something else because a slicer is a handy thing to have. -RP

Agreed. Mine is a pita to clean and always with one eye on that blade. I wear fish filleting gloves when I clean the blade itself.

I have a cheap one that I paid $80 for it. I have used it about 10-12 times and it does a good enough job for the cost. I have use commercial one and they do a much better job. But for a grand or two they should.

Wife bought me one last year and I have used it (maybe) half a dozen times. I think it is a Krups brand. It does an OK job, but is a PAIN yo clean and makes a big mess on the counter.
I used it last week for a corned beef I smoked on the egg. After smoking and resting, I actually put in the freezer for a short while (it sliced better when It was cold). -
No need for a machine to slice thinly. Just cut closer to the air.
