Good Morning everyone,

Quick background....I would say that I'm a fairly experienced Egger....been at it for about a year now (ribs, butts, turkey, burgers, steaks, spatchcock....have tried a fair amount of stuff with good success).

However, I've never really cooked on the egg for a large number of people. Out of no where a friend of mine suggested a barbeque at my house this weekend and I have no idea what to cook. Probably looking at around 10-15 people.

My thoughts were just to do burgers/hotdogs on a lower temp (not the nuclear 600 degree method) just to make it easier to cook more food. But was curious to see what other ideas might be out there.

Any thoughts??

  • I like doing pulled pork for parties because by the time the party starts, your work is generally done. The butt rests in the cooler for a long time after cooking and all you have to do is serve.

What size Egg? If its a large or XL, chicken. Spatchcock or legs and thighs. When the chicken comes off throw on some romaine lettuce. The only problem with this cook is the crowd will keep coming back ;)

Look up AZRP's "the chicken". I believe you can easily fit enough for 15 people and the veggies are great.

15-20 people is large??? 600 people is large..

First calm down!! Second shoot your neighbor.. Better yet do it the other way around that way you can claim diminished capacity.

I can easily get 15 hamburgers on my Egg, but if you really want to wow your neighbors go the Pulled Pork route.

Two pork butts should be more than enough. As for tending the egg over night yank that silly ass neighbor of your over and let him watch the egg while you sleep.

I would tell your "friend" he is responsible for providing all the liquid refreshments for the get together. Then request the expensive stuff. He will learn a valuable lesson, ;) and you will get a good buzz while being praised like a god. B)

i would go the pulled pork route as well, maybe have some hamburgers and dogs to throw on, maybe even a tritip or two, but i go overboard. i cooked a 16 pound top round last week and there were only 4 of us eating that day B)

You cant go wrong with pulled pork.

    Another idea--

Last weekend we had about 20 people over and we had italian beef sandwiches and eight different pizzas off the egg. This worked out well. People who didnt like pizza had something to eat. This also allowed people to eat something if they were hungry as the pizza's were coooking.

Habanero ABT'S,keeps the liquid's flowing and the bad neibor's away!! If you have a XL you can spatchcock 4 and potatoes under them.

Brisket is another option (especially here in Texas) as it serves a lot of people and your work is mostly done ahead of time.

The last big cook I did (35 or so) I did two briskets (I have a Large and Med), then while brisket was resting, loaded the Eggs with individual chicken pieces for an indirect cook, and finally as the guests were arriving threw some link sausage on the grill to be heated.

That was for my Sunday School class and I had told them all to bring an appetizer, side dish, or dessert pot luck style. That way I could concentrate on just the meats as well as the beverages (we're not very good Methodists).

  • Italian Beef Sandwiches...ok, I am intrigued. Is that a chuck roast, pulled beef type of thing?

Every time I visit Chicago, I go to Portillo's for an Italian Beef sandwich and Lou Malnati's for pizza...

Let me know your method for Italian Beef...that sounds like fun!

    Thanks,

if you dont want to do an overnight, old daves fast cooked brisket is a good option, you would need a raised grill to maybe fit 2 in there. this was really tasty and you can still get some burgers and dogs in while its resting

Amen, who does your friend think he is? You slave over a grill for 14 hours and he just shows up and eats, BS!

    Probably an MU guy too.
