For too many years I have been cooking in the elements, blazing sun  , driving rain :ermm: , snow :S , not to mention all the crap that fell outa the giant Maple tree looming over my patio  . I put up with it mainly because I love trees, & to do this project required removing a healthy, beautiful one. I finally said nuffsanuff & removed the tree thereby making way for comfortable cooking here on out.

The Smoke Hut was inspired by my visit to Wess & Sally’s & designed in consultation with the egg-world famous Sparky, who provided a sketch that was ultimately adopted with some adjustments.

The original egg zone:

The big Maple that had to go:

So it went:

So did the wall:

Pesky-ass stump didn’t wanna go without a fight:

Anyone care to venture a guess as to how long this artifact was buried:

Lots o’ excavation by yours truly with me-trusty Craftsman:

Enough destruction, now for the construction. Deck frame on:

Concrete tubes all filled up, & I couldn’t resist:

Action shot of my good buddy & very talented local contractor Samuel S. Finney, Jr., hard at work with the cedar:

Deck is all done, broke it in 2 minutes later with some Moinkburgers & Tekate:

Next day, roof structure framed out, the Hut is start’n to take shape:

Need some stairs here (keeps the drunks from fall’n too far):

Add tar paper, shingles, trim, gutters & a whole lota what-not, & we all done:

Of course we all know what this means:

* The furniture is temporary, borrowed from my porch, until I can find a nice outdoor set. Eventually, the egg tables are gonna go too, I am thinking about building a nice brick or stone perma-table on the concrete patio incorporating both eggs & a granite work surface. This will be built right where the table is now, & will incorporate that wretched window somehow (thinking about bricking in a cool design and/or giving it some functional aspect). Also, lighting, outlets, speakers, and a burner for boiling stuff will be built in. Check back w/me in 10 or so years, it’ll all be done    .

But for now, all is good, & life is indeed happy in the hut.
