Forum needs categories.

I came here looking for information before I bought my egg and found this was the WORST forum I have ever visited.

There are NO categories. I would have expected to find a general area where people could talk about whatever, categories based on sizes, accessories, tables, nests and what not. Instead. This place is a mess.

Please clean this up and make it easier to navigate around in. The left column should show categories not who;s logged in.

yep. you aren't the first to say that. in fact, each person that joins says it in around their third post or so.

but the forum isn't a place created so folks can swoop in, look thru a card file, and get their answer without interacting. it's a forum... we actually discuss things.

truth be told, too, things change. the "answer" you are looking for would have maybe been a very different thing a year and a half ago.

and if you were after something like "how do i cook ribs", you couldn't possibly get "an" answer. there are more ways to do things than you can imagine.

cubbyholes and easy answers are for tech forums, maybe.

    we are decidedly low-tech

  • Stike,

I don't know if I'd say we are "low-tech"... I'd like to think we are more "community" oriented. Like you said, we aren't just for swooping in, get an answer, and leave.

This IS a forum with discussions... and with many members that know each other.

But, for those seeking a "quick" answer, I might want to point them to our advanced search page. We have full text search capability using efficient database search mechanisms that rival any "normal" forum... so if you need it, you can find it.

We also provides several "views" (classic, flat, threaded) that provide a variety of ways to view the forum database.

Are we perfect? Certainly not. Could we stand some improvments? Absolutely. Will your webmasters add improvements as time permits? You bet.

sorry boss. certainly don't mean your work is low-tech. just mean that we here tend to provide more (and various) answers pretty quickly. and since those answers tend to modify over time as the "group" understanding grows, the idea of a fixed answer isn't really very likely.

your work, managing this vast pile of stuff, isn't low tech. but maybe our application of your resources is. hahaha

    keep up the good work....

  • Stike,

No offense taken dude! We're all part of the same family... or is the forum actualy an organism... hmmmmm.

  • Well, here I am, new guy, 1st post, and couldn't agree more about categories. Even more so, is there any way to keep from having to click each reply to read it? Is ther any way to open a thread and see all responses at once?

    **NEVERMIND**
    Found flat view.

see. gotta snoop around check things out before assuming we are in need of fixing.

    hahaha

anyway, gets tough when folks have been here for years, and thousands of posts (both on the asking and answering end), and someone's first post is "this place needs my expert redo"

    welcome.
    ask, and ye shall receive.

there are no pat answers, no simple FAQs. so easier to just ask what you are thinking even if you're afraid it's been asked a hundred times

I have only been on the forum a few months, but when I need a answer or have searched for one usually I come up with one. :cheer: I have enjoyed the forum since I joined day one yes sometimes I can't find the answer in the archive, but if not I ask it even if it has been asked a thousand times. I am not afraid to ask. That is what this forum is about learning and asking questions. I LOVE THE FORUM. It is the easist one I have used, yes it could use some improvements but I still love it. :)

Go to flat view and click the link you have interest in. We are here to help and enjoy, not be blasted for bad technology. This forum and its previous forms have lasted many many years. Come on down!!
