3 hours sleep last night...

Last night I had the bright idea of doing "handy" work around the house... I hung a pots-and-pans rack on my kitchen roof... Of course I had to drill through it... First I missed the concrete beam so had to drill another hole for the anchor to work; with the second hole I hit some wires and there were sparks all over the place and now I can't turn the kitchen lights off... The electrician will have to come and pry open the ceiling to fix the wires... mind you, the rack is in place and the pots and pans are hanging in an eternally lit kitchen (until the electrician comes, of course).

After that it was my endeavor to put some racks in the laundry for detergent and all, this was no prob, no wires in the wall...

Then I hung some curtains in the guest room... again no prob here...

Then it was 1:00 am... damn... I had to start the fire to cook 2 9# pork butts a friend asked me for her birthday party today... My initial plan was to start the fire and stabilize it, go to bed and wake up at 3am to put the butts in... well I had to toss that... I ended up going to bed at 3:30am half drunk with about 12 beers, 2 gin tonics and nothing but 5 plain quesadillas... had to get up about half hour ago to check on the fire and shower and go to work... Am drinkin a triple extra strong espresso as I write and I can feel the lack-of-sleep headache lurking in the back of my head...

It's gonna be a loooong long day hahaha...
Have a good one guys!

Cheers!

LOL there are some things that cooks just should not do in the kitchen :) at least you did not have to hunt for the light switch when you got up  Neil was putting trim up around a door in our other place in FL last winter. hit a wire that was in a really strange place. We smelt smoke but thought it was just from screwing in to a hard spot. he had caught it on fire!! it went out pretty quick but we could not figure out why the smell was geting stonger.

Oh you poor guy Pato, I feel so bad for you. I think after the pots and pans rack I would've called it a night. Where on earth do you get all this energy?
12 beers, 2 g&t's...lol!! I hope your "lack-of-sleep" headache goes away and the rest of your day goes well.
Now tonite go home and just relax and get some sleep and stop thinking of things to do.

I'll trade your lack of sleep headache for my sinus headache and a electronic wire locator..

    Hey Anne!

Well, the espresso did it for me... my headache threat is gone now.. haha...

And well, tonight I have a wine tasting thing just before my friend's party, at which I'm going in guest/caterer capacity... So I don't think I'm gonna have much time for sleep.... :pinch:

    Cheers!

Hahaha thanks Pete! but mine is gone... and the wire... well the wire is already screwed... the electritian will be there soon... he's gonna have to rip open the ceiling... :pinch: and that's precisely what I wanted to avoid...

Anyways! hope your headache fades away soon enough!

    Cheers!

Haha well the "good" thing is that the only thing that could catch on fire is the wire... everything else is concrete thank god hahaha....

    Cheers!

Well I just hope the guy doesn't stiff me... I would do it myself but I generally back off once there's concrete breaking and rebuilding involved haha...

    Cheers!

See if you can get FlaPoolMan to deliver.

    Beverage, Bloody Marys, FlaPoolMan

    INGREDIENTS:
    1 quart Motts Clamato Juice
    10 oz 80 proof Vodka or Gin (8 oz.= 25%, 16 oz.= 33%)
1-2 bottle caps Lemon Juice Concentrate (use cap off bottle)
2 glugs Worcestershire Sauce (turn bottle up and it will say GLUG)
    5 shakes Tabasco Sauce
10 shakes Celery Salt (hold jar and pat bottom for 1 shake)
10 shakes Celery Seed (hold jar and pat bottom for 1 shake)
20-25 twists course ground Black Pepper, pepper grinder
If fresh from pepper mix +/- 1/2 tsp.--if from shaker or can, make a coating on top
    of liquid 2 1/2"-3" diameter.

    Procedure:
1 This needs to be made at least 3 days in advance.
2 Mix all in a pitcher -ONE BATCH- at a time. Stir with a wooden spoon, with slots if
3 available,. This mixture is ready to serve over ice at once, but if refrigerated
4 overnight it sharpens the taste and hotness.
5 Garnish with pickle, dill, orange slice, stick of celery, optional.
6 People in upper midwestern states serve 10 oz. bloody marys with a small side glass
7 of beer, 4-6 oz. Try it you might like it. It's like an unmixed boiler maker, but not as
    8 strong.

Hey Richard! thanks for the recipe, I actually do a very similar one but instead of vodka/gin I use beer... we call it "sangre de cristo" (Christ's blood)... and it will revive a zombie if needed, but mine will have to wait until 3pm when I get off work... :pinch:

    Cheers!

yeah tell me about it! haha at least I learned 4 things out of this experience:

    1. NEVER trust construction plans unless you built the house and drew the plans yourself... apparently the electricians and mortar guys do whatever they want in the end and end up placing wires where the architect didn't draw them...

    2. It is better to shut off the power of that area ALWAYS when drilling through walls and ceilings, even if you are sure there are no wires there because the plans say so (see lesson 1)

    3. Always wear goggles and facemask when drilling through concrete ceilings (maaaan that thing gives off a lot of itchy, bad smelling and tasting dust, especially if you get it in your eyes haha :pinch: )

    4. Drink a NEW COLD beer after working... the one that WAS cold before begining work is probably full of concrete and warm...

    Cheers!

    Richard,

How many times do I have to tell you. That is a recipe for Bloody Caesars. ;)
BTW thy have a hangover cure in Mexico called Michalatta (sp?), which uses beer rather than vodka. Works B)

    You meaan this one?

    Vodka, Bloody Caesar

A close relative to the Bloody Mary. It was created by bartender Walter Chell in 1969. Using Italian cuisine for inspiration, he came up with a mixture of hand-mashed clams, tomato juice, vodka, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; then garnished it with a celery stick and named it for the Roman Emperor - a 'Bloody Caesar'. Later, with assistance from Chell, the Mott Company went on to develope 'clamato' juice.

    INGREDIENTS:
    6 oz Mott's Clamato Juice
    1 1/2 oz Vodka
    2 dashes Tabasco Sauce
    2 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
    Celery salt
    Freshly Ground Pepper
    Lime/Lemon wedge
    1 Crisp Celery Stalk

    Procedure:
1 Rim highball glass first with the lemon slice and then the celery salt.Fill this glass with ice. Add vodka and juice to ice, and season with pepper, Worcestershire Sauce, and Tobasco. Stir, and then garnish with a celery stick.
