one of the young guys that works with Neil got his GED last week and everyone at work got together for dinner tonight as a graduation party :) it was nice. he dropped out of school 2 years ago and Neil has been "working" on him since LOL we had a nice night! sometimes it takes awhile but it sinks in at some point :)wish more could realize it or have the opportunity, or someone pushing and guts to go for it!

That's awesome, Julie! Cudos to Neil for sticking by, and believing in the guy! :) Sometimes in life, we make poor decisions...and it takes a 'mentor' type, like Neil, to get us back on track! Way to go, Neil! :woohoo: And many, many congratulations to the new graduate!! Good for him for pushing through it! Success! :woohoo: :woohoo: ;)

Sometimes it takes that extra push. Congrats to you and Neil for not giving up on him.

    Julie,

Neil is old school. Tough but fair. I have always prided myself on being that way. Kid will respect him forever.

    Hey Julie,

Congratulations to Neil and his young friend. Maybe they won't stop there! I quit High School when I was 16 and didn't look back until 23 years later. I was 39 when I took the exam for the GED. It snowballed into an A.A. Degree from Edison College, a B.A. Degree in Geography from Florida Atlantic University, a life member in the International Geography Students Honor Society and certificates in Environmental Science and Computer Aided Design (CAD).

I hope the weather up there is cooperating with you.

He kind of surprised us with it. Last year he had gone and started adult ed to go take the test and the school that he went to for it was Rotten! not very supportive and I don't think the teachers that were doing the class could care less  and he gave up again. then he just went and took the test this spring and did not tell anyone he was going to do it LOL he had not taken the class and just wanted to try and see how bad he did LOL he passed! he was pretty proud of him self :) He rides with Neil usually in his van and Neil busts his butt!. he said he always sleeps good after a day with Neil and he is the "old guy" on the crews. LOL

    B) a freind of mine got interested in a young waitress' situation involving her education and day after tomorrow we are heading to her college graduation as a MD.
apparently her home life precluded her ability to stay in school and once she got her GED she started pursuing higher education 'til finally this.
:silly: hell yeah, she's excited as heck.
from greasy spoon to, hey don't eat that garbage
sometimes it just takes a nudge from someone
sounds like Neil is a nudger
