small wood chips vs lg wood chips

Is there a difference in the small wood chips vs the large ones. All the videos I see show using the small chips but I thought the large ones would burn longer.

Since I've been on the egg I prefer the chunks over the chips. They do burn longer and if it's a short cook the chunks too will eventually go out when you shut everything done.LBGE Katy (Houston) TX

Small chips are good for adding a little flavor and for short cooks (especially fruit-wood chips)
For long cooks like butts and brisket (and ribs) chunks seen to work better. Most do NOT soak in water ( not necessary to do so). Mix chunks in with th elump so they light at different times and give longer smoke time. -
small chips won't last as long as big ones, true.
but a pound of wood is a pound of wood either way.
one chip gives off less smoke than one chunk. but half a pound of chips would be the same as a half pound chunked egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
My spin on this would be the chunks because you can find it in the lump and remove it for your next cook.Nothing like having some mesquite chips lurking where they can not be found and have that flavor in your next cook.Like mesquite flavored turkey breast.
