if problems with dome thermometers are common? Bought a new XL two weeks ago. Finally fired it up last night. To my dismay temperature didn't rise above 100 for 1st 30 minutes. Finally got it as high as 375, never above, after lightly tapping on thermometer. Very disappointed and thankful I didn't have a patio full of people for this 1st run. Are problems like this rare with new eggs?

Have you tried to adjust the thermometer? The nut behind the dial can easily and inadvertently be turned.

Stick it in boiling water and turn the nut on the back until it reads in the 210-212 range. Then you should be good to go.

Are the openings in the fire-ring-thingie lined up correctly?

I know how to do it, but not how to explain it. Someone else with better explain-ation skills should jump in here. :blink:

Just put the tip of the thermometer in the boiling water and try not to let it touch any of the pan itself..good luck..

The thermometer on my large totally crapped out after just 2 months. BGE sent a replacement but now I've got a Tel-Tru on hand for the next time.

If the needle is sticking then get it replaced.

If the thermometer is OK then there is something else that needs to be addressed.
