White Plastic Spring Retainers

I purchased my EGG from the EGGtoberfest a couple of years ago, but it did not come with the white plastic retainers.

I am now in the position where I need to change my gasket, and therefore have to take off the lid.

Is there any substitute for the white plastic retainers? Can I use cable ties?

Yes, you can. Also if you stop by most dealers, they should give you a set of clips.

if you have someone hold the dome open, it is extremely easy to slide the springs off the hinge and it makes life much easier

I used a few large zip ties when I replaced my gasket.

For those who have the white plastic pieces that came with your egg, I strongly suggest you use wire-ties, zip-ties, or whatever you call them, in addition to the white platic deals. If you bump the bands against something that piece can pop off and at the very least bend the bands, and at worst whomp you in the head.

use a screwdriver to lift and slide the springs off, wear glasses

I used a couple pieces of scrap wood, drilled a few holes in the right places and had them.

I just use a spring clamp to hold the bands together. Very easy.
