Susan and Teresa made the most incredible mussels at the after party in Ocala. I've been dying to have them ever since so yesterday I emailed Susan and within minutes she responded with her recipe. It turned out fantastic!!
This was my first time making mussels so I was on a real learning curve. They taught everything from how to buy them, what to look for and how to store until I use them.
Thanks Susan and Teresa for all your help. I look forward to seeing you at Waldorf!! :woohoo:

The ingredients (there also was onion, not pictured)

The sauce was fantastic!! Great for dipping the bread in.

Hoss, I'm with you on that. Susan was at work when she emailed me the recipe and she even checked back to make sure everything went well. This is the most incredible group of people I've ever met in my life. We're like one big family. That's so funny you're saying about the forum being therapy, I was just thinking that today myself.

Thanks Pat! They were good. Susan and Teresa just kept making more and more. It was unreal. I had 3 servings myself. Mr. Tapeworm, I know you could never ever get enough. Those 6 coolers might have been a nice appetizer for you. :) Oops!! I need to quit telling everyone about your tapeworm. I'm sorry. :(

Those look delicious! You did good. :) Happy to help anytime. Teresa already has her stash of mussels for the weekend. I think I will try some clams. Anybody have a suggestion? I am going to try and find the Anchor Bar suicidal sauce tomorrow. The wine shop carries a bunch of hot sauces, I might as well go for the tasting

Thanks Susan and thank Teresa for me too. You're both such sweethearts. So you're doing more mussels this weekend. I have to tell you they are addictive. This will be a regular cook for me.
Anchor Bar suicidal sauce???? hmmmm. The name says it all, what on earth are you going to make with that??
As for clams, I'm not a clam person. Oyster and mussels are my favorites. Have a great weekend and thanks again!

Thanks Todd, they were so easy. Del is still down in FL helping his mom. He hasn't been back since Ocala. I had all those mussels to myself. It was tough getting the last few down and then having to soak up all that delicious sauce with the garlic bread. I'm comfortably numb right now.
Say "hi" to my buddy Rory. That plate of macaroons he made me was sooo sweet. He's a little cutie. I've got some pictures of all of you from Ocala. Was great seeing you and getting to cook next to you. You really made some fantastic food. Those shrimp were to DIE for!! It was fun watching Rory make the macaroons. What a little chef he is. Kenny is great too. They take after dad in the cooking dept.

Hi Anne, I think that was one of my very favorite things at the fest. I have had many a moment that I was trying to figure out what to do for dinner since we got home from Ocala and those flashed through my mind :) Susan and Teresa nailed those as far as I was concerned. Of course the company didn't hurt either :)
  • Ann, thanks for reminding me of those mussels from Ocala. They were excellent. You did a great job recreating them. I will be making those soon.

Thanks Faith! I didn't get to talk with you much in Ocala. The time went by so fast and there were so many people. Hopefully we'll hook up at another fest. Are you going to Waldorf?
The mussels were one of my favorites. I can't wait till egret has the cookbook together. Everything I tried was delicious and it will be fun to recreate some of them.
  • Good job anne, those look real good!
