i had an all day meeting up in the boston area yesterday, but on the way back to the airport to catch my flight i managed to stop for an hour and a half at Chez Stikey to spend a little time with stike, sundown and flashback bob (along with the lovely mrs. stike) ...great way to end a long day ...actually embibed in a cold brew, enjoyed some fresh clams cooked on the egg, along with some french bread and stinky cheese. . .and you couldn't ask for better company!! (well, maybe if sundown had actually WON the chili throwdown it would have better, but oh well!!). . .

the only thing that worries me a little is stike's judgement. . .he's a fine young man, but when i called him for directions to the house, he told me he was at the hardware store picking up some lump and that he had left sundown alone at the house with mrs. stike!! . . .i told him that this was a huge mistake as the dog would probably end up pregnant and he'd damn well better count the silver before sundown left the house!! . ..but other than that he and the mrs. were fabulous hosts!!. .

thanks stike for putting the little get together together on such short notice. . .it really was a fine way to end the day!!!. . .

and a big thanks to sundown for sending me home with a cooler packed with pearls and other sausages!!. .what a treat!!!. .. you should have seen the look on the TSA guy's face as those went through the x-ray machine and then heard my explanation. . ."but officer, those GOLD .. .you can't get them in washington ... best damn hotdogs in the world. .. you people are lucky to be living in a city where you have access to these. ..". .. he just smiled and said "ok sir, you're good to go" ....

It was great to see you Max, it's been a while since Waldorf. We sent you home with the Pearls and the Gaspar Linguica and Chourico hoping that would offer you and yours a little solace after what you've been through the last few weeks. We hope it works!

Being alone with Ms. Stike was a lesson in pizza making! She was a perfect lady! And they don't have a dog anyway.

My reputation has, for some odd reason, been blown way out of proportion!

It was great to sit a jaw for that hour and a half with you. Now you know what and who the stike and Flashback are. An odd couple on a good day. But, they're good boys no matter what.

After you had left, Darlene and stike fed me steamers with butter and EssexCounty pizza. (I'm never going to loose any weight at this rate!)

Next time you're up you have to stay longer!
  • thanks carey!! . .. as i said, just hanging out for a couple of hours with good company was just what the doctor ordered! . . .and i have to be back on the 21st/22nd i think so we'll see if we can work in a session at fred's one of those two days!! now you just need to work on gayle for the trip to waldorf. ..

i told spawn about the pearls and other goodies and her response was "YAY!! i know what we are eating one night next week when i get home!!!!! she said to say a big THANKS!!!" . ..so thats some good medicine for her continued recovery as well. . ..

    Max,

Any way you can re-schedule your next visit for April 28-30? I am going to be there and have already been planning with stike to take over the northern half of the Boston area for a few hours on Tuesday the 28th. Would be great to sit with you again for a few hours as well.

I need to try me a pearl while I'm up there too. The looks you got from the security guards can't be any worse than the ones I get bringing back lobster from Boston or dungenous crab from Seattle or stone crab from Miami.
  • sorry rod, i'm gonna be with a whole group of people, so the dates are out of my control (wish it were otherwise). . .at least i'm trying to get them to schedule the meetings so that we have enough time at lunch one of the two days so that i can take a bunch of them over to fred's franks one day!! . ..

i remember you used to be able to buy live lobsters right at logan airport and they'd pack them up for you to take on the planes. .. don't know if they still that or not in the post-911 environment ... LOL . .

i still have a few freezer packs from Legal Sea Foods. I used to bring back a gallon of chowder when I was flying out of Logan and they had these nifty foil wrapped freezer blocks.

Then I found what really good chowder is like and haven't bought any more at Legal. Of course, now there is a Legal Sea Foods here in Atlanta...go figure.

good to finally meet you max. glad the schedule worked out. apologies if i was a bit loopy. the treadmill of the past few days had me ragged, but i perked up with a couple beers in me.

it was our pleasure to welcome you. i know flashback bob was glad to meet you, and sundown had to come because i accidentally mentioned it to him and there was no holding him back. i tried a fake address, but he knows how to google.

glad to meet you, sorry to see you go. i understand needing to get back on the road when you are headed home after a business trip. glad we could at least get some littlenecks into you. carey hung out with us and we had some simple food after that (non-BGE steamers and that rosemary/red onion pizza that essexco's wife makes).it was a nice way to wind down. i was so tired after the week, though, i couldn't get to sleep. just waking up now, and of course the client has a million changes. i really needed and welcomed the break. great to meet you after something like 6 years of "knowing" you from the forum. FWIW the suit and tie really threw me. my wife asked "is he up here on business?" and i told her no, that you dressed like that all the time. kinda like fred macmurray on my three sons, ca. 1958. hahaha

i no longer will join the max-bashing when they give you grief about your pepper pants.

there's talk of waldorf now, from my wife. we'll see if we can make something happen.

big thanks to carey for getting the pearl's and gaspar's for you. he was generous in including my name on the proverbial gift tag, but i was trapped in my studio and didn't do a thing. he did all that. don't tell him i said this, but he's a nice guy. my wife thinks he's wonderful now. one charming visit from him undid about two years' worth of me telling her how much of a jackass he is. (kidding, carey).

again. great to meet the fabled max. love to your daughter and family, and hope to tip a beverage with you again sooner, rather than later.

  • LOL. . .you must have been sleepwalking, cause i didn't have a tie on!!. ..but that was about as dressed up as i get!!....and the pleasure was all mine. . .always great to finally get to meet fellow eggers face-to-face. . .and yes that carey is a sweetheart. ..

i'll tell you one thing, it is so rare that i actually get to just sit down for a couple of hours like that with a few friends and relax, you have no earthly idea what a real treat that was!! ....i promise you when i'm again later this month we'll make a little time again, either for fred's, or for another little visit to your place on the way to the airport!! . ..

    thanks again. ..

  • Max it was great to meet you and Jefe thanks for letting us converge at your house. It is great getting to sit and relax with other Manly Men, talking about beer and women and such.

Sorry I had to scamper out early, but supper time is the only time I get to see my kids during the week and last night I had to go out again so I couldn't let myself stay and have fun.

Next time you come up, I will try to get you some GOOD linguica and Chourico to bring home. Not that I'm a Portugese sausage connoiseur, but the N.E. Meat Market Linguica is great stuff!

Anyway, I'm glad you stopped by, good fun getting together and let's do it again in April!
