I am considering converting an old buffet cabinent that I bought at an auction into a table for my large and medium. The cabinent is enclosed with doors and is made of solid oak and oak plywood.
Are there heat or airflow issues I should worry about?
Obviously the doors would need to remain open while cooking.

I would put a heat shield behind the egg to keep the wood from drying out. Other than that you should be OK.

Where will it be used? Will it be protected from rain? Oak veneer used in a piece of indoor furniture will de-laminate. Even oak wood itself does not weather well at all outside. It may not be worth your effort...sorry...Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

It will be under my covered deck. So will be protected from rain and sun.

I designed an enclosed table and was worried about the same problem. Have been using it for almost 2 years now and no problems at all. Had the egg up to 800-1000 F many times. It sits under a carport most of the time but is sometimes exposed to direct rain, hail, light snow, and high winds. You can see the detailed design, parts list, and photos in this thread (takes a while to load due to all the photos).
