Cast Iron for Medium BGE

I decided I needed some cast iron cookware for the egg so I took a swing in by Bass Pro Shop the other day. I walked out with a Lodge 5 Qt. dutch oven, 10 1/4" skillet and 10 1/2" griddle. I was happy to see that the lid on the DO fit everything.
My biggest thought was the 15" diameter of my medium BGE. The handles on the skillet and griddle were to long to allow closing the dome. So I cut the handles off,, well half off. That cast iron is tough stuff to cut!!!

To make life good again I fabricated new handles. A trip or two or three to the hardware store produced:

1-18" length of 1" pipe
2-1" end caps
2-cloths line hooks
1-piece of pipe insulation
2-1/4 20 X 1/2" stainless machine screws

The 18" pipe was to long so I cut 6" off giving me 2 pieces, each threaded on one end. I drilled the end caps to take the cloths line hooks, they double as lid lifters and to hang them from. Next I hammered (with much effort) the end of the pipe not threaded till it flattened, leaving a gap to accept the shortened handle on the cookware. I drilled a hole in each new handle 1" back from the hammered end and threaded the machine screws to the holes. This keeps the handles from drooping and is adjustable. Last I covered with pipe insulation for a comfortable grip. The jury is still out on how much heat the pipe insulation will take but I don't expect them to be exposed for any length of time. The new handles work great and slip on and off slick as a whistle.
Now that I can close the dome on the cast iron there aren't to many things that can't be cooked on the medium BGE. With the DigiQ II controlling the temperature the possibilities are endless. Well, almost.
