Hello,
Do I use the place setter in conjunction with the cedar planks.

Nope. the plank is your indirect barrier. Just soak them well.

The smoke from the board will add to the flavor and the water soak will keep it from burning up to fast. Can get several goo uses out of a board if you clean well afterwards.

K, thanks. Doing anniversary salmon.

Do you let the plank pre-heat briefly (to let some of the water/steam out) before you put the salmon on it, or just put the fish on the damp plank and into the Egg?
The last time I tried a plank it was B.E. (before Egg) and I was using a gasser. Even though I soaked it well, it burned up beyond a second use! :( -
put it on wet. you don't want cedar smoke on the fish the whole time. a little goes a long way.
there is much cheaper cedar at the big box store, FWIW. boards or even shingles. make sure they are not treated (they will be marked if they are, because they charge a premium for them)ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
I wouldn't try cleaning them after. Just toss out. You can get a replacement for a buck or so. Then you won't have to worry about bacteria issues. Buy the planks at a box store. Decking or shakes will do.

I figured I would put the salmon on the wet planks, guess I didn't give it any thought. I bought these at Big Orange in the grilling section. Since I was doing skinless thought the sanded ones were better than rough sawn.
