Q on RRP instructions for Rutland
Bash
Posts: 1,011
I have my lid and base cleaned down to bare ceramic, and I'm about to put the fiberglass gasket on. Per the instructions, you are supposed to let it dry and hour, then slowly heat up the stove to 500, and leave it there for an hour.
How to you handle getting the lid back on. I'm afraid that when I put the bands back on and the lid on the gasket, it will push all the adhesive out.
I was thinking of putting on the gasket, waiting an hour, then putting on the bands, setting the lid gently on the base, and then connecting up the hardware. Then opening it, lighting a fire, and set up the glue per packaging directions.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Richard

let's take this offline - BGE does not like me using their board to discuss Rutland. Check your email in a couple minutes.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Great - thank you.

I sent it nearly 30 minutes ago. If you didn't receive it please check your spam box as these relayed messages sometime end up there. Then if you didn't get it at all please email me and we'll link up that way, but I did respond as promised.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I just checked email, including junk folder. I didn't see it. I'll try to email you. I haven't done that yet, so it may take me a minute...

This is truly a shame as I'd sure like to hear the answer to these questions.

Is it just me that finds it disconcerting that BGE seems, bottom line, to have a whole lot to say about what is discussed on this site? I thought we were an independent entity. I noticed that awhile back Tom had to change the name of his site from "Eggaccessories" to "CeramicGrillStore" claiming that BGE wanted to have the exclusive right to use the word "Egg". Maybe they should put out units without substandard gasket material on them and they wouldn't have to worry about the bad publicity they get constantly on this issue. They seem very slow to remedy the situation.

When one own the ball, bat and field I guess they get have a say in the rules.
As I understand it Tom graciously agreed to the change out of courtesy.
Not agreeing or disagreeing, just a comment.

I sent you an email maybe 10 minutes ago, and then another a few minutes later with an alternate email to use.
Thanks,

I haven't gotten yours either! hmmmmmm makes ya wonder...
I just edited this message to remove my email address since I assume anybody who wanted to know the dialogue has already emailed me tonight.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
I sent you a couple of emails, from two different accounts. Hopefully the emails gods are not eating all my emails today.
I'm waiting to hear from you before I put the gasket on. Took quite a while to get it down to bare ceramic, so I don't want to mess it up.

As far as I'm concerned BGE owns this forum and they set the rules as appropriate. Just throw a nomex on there and start cooking.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

I'm quite happy to follow any forum rules. Any discussion has been taken offline.
Regarding what I choose to put on there, well, that is my business.
Thanks for the comment. -
Should have been more clear: what I put on my egg is my business. (Did not mean what I put on the forum - as I said, I am quite happy to follow forum rules.)

A great man once said, “As you know, these are open forums, you're able to come and listen to what I have to say.”
For the life of me I can't remember what his name was.
