Tel-Tru thermometer calibration

I bought a Tel-Tru thermometer for my large BGE. The instructions say I should have a master thermometer to calibrate it, but I don't have one. Any suggestions? I know there's a method using boiling water, but how does one hold the thermometer over the water without scalding the hands? Thanks for your help!

long strip of cardboard, poke it thru and use as a handlefukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I usually hold it with the box end wrench on the adjusting nut and can readily make whatever adjustments are necessary.

Use the clip that comes with it that you use on the inside of the BGE dome. Clip the clip over the edge of the boiling water pot.

I use a box wrench and my bad ass leather grillin' gloves.

The first and only time I did it I used tongs to hold it from dial. To adjust grabed nut with a pair of pliers and twisted dolding dial with a towel.
