Question to Mini Owners

From what I can determine the Mini comes from the factory with the handle hanging down and hugging the side of the Egg. The angled bend in the metal rod then contacts the flat plates on the band when the handle is lifted. Because the wooden part of the handle is in contact, or, near contact with the ceramic, I'm told that, over time, it may eventually begin to blacken and damage the surface. Although, likely not an issue, it also naturally puts your fingers in close proximity with the warm ceramic.
While I don't get a lot of requests for them, Chris of DizzyPig got me to start making them where the angle on the metal of the handle is reversed. By simply reversing the handle on the Egg, a space is created between the wood of the handle and the ceramic. It does make a slight difference in the lifting of the lid, but because the weight of the lid is so minimal, it doesn't affect much of anything. I've since reversed the handle on Molly'sMini, and I do like it. Do any other Mini owners do this?
I ask this question only because it makes a difference when personalizing the handle. I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Many Thanks.
Mike

will try that when i get home and take a pic
of reverse
-
Sounds like a good idea. I'll try later.

Mine came like this and you can see the small scorch mark on the wood handle. Here are both up and down photos.

Here's what it looks like reversed, both up and down at their maximum reach.

It feels different at first to swap it but its certainly workable and might even be desirable.

I just recurved the handle you made for me a very small amount in order to keep it off the ceramic. I don't think it would be an issue for most mini cooks, as they have mini cook times:pokk butts excepted.

I will be getting my mini in Ocala. Is there any way to make a handle for the mini like all the other Egg sizes. I am not sure why the mini handle dangles either up or down...just curious...
-
Kim,
It dangles down when it's unhappy

Yeah, as I said, the only time it makes a difference is when personalizing. I guess I could personalize in 2 locations and everyone would be happy. :silly:

I like the idea of the handle reversed.
I gave my daughter a mini for an early Birthday present and I am curious how much lead time there is a get a customized handle.

You're just about on schedule. I think I can make that happen.

I guess I had better get it ordered then when I get home.
Is there an extra charge for "rush delivery"?

That is rushing! :S ...just kidding.

I reversed the rod for the handle soon after I got the mini. Now I know I'm not the only one who has done this.
I also 'adjusted' the bend so the handle rod stays put and won't flop down, yet remains the ability to pivot in the bracket.
Hard to tell from this pic but the rod is reversed.

Yeah, I'm still messing with the angles. For the longest I didn't have a Mini and was just shooting in the dark. Sure makes it easier when you have something to test them on.
