Wasatch Front - High Mountain Jerky

Anyone on the Wasatch Front or Salt Lake area...

I was trying to chase down some Buckboard Bacon cure and while checking with some local stores I found some High Mountain Jerky kits.

Harmond at the District has about 50 packages of assorted Jerky seasoning/cure packages they will let go for $2.00 each if anyone is interested.

Possibly other stores in the chain might have some too.

Unfortunately, I couldn't fined any BB cure locally.

Are the jerky kits the the ones that are normally $7 each? That is a good deal.

Sounds like you might have eaten all your BBB you did recently. Stuff is dangerously great. Tell us how the jerky works out.
  • Yup, they are. The store doesn't sell enough of them to justify the shelf space.

  • I only have a small amount for the Buckboard Bacon left. I shared it with the kids & g-kids. And, I have to do a loin as per thirdeye.

I now have about 20 pounds more to do for the families and a couple of neighbors. I bought the meat thinking I would have the BB cure available at a local store. Ooooops!

    GG
  • I picked up a pork loin today. My BB cure is suppose to arrive on the 12th by UPS. I plan on preparing the meat on Sunday to smoke next Sat. I am looking forward to it!

Do you want me to drop a box in with the priority mail shipment tomorrow? You could get it on Friday.

  • what kinds did they have. I may have my brother in law pick some up he lives in lehi and works in slc.

    all stores have the rub?

    what isle. spice isle

    thanks Jason
  • I have 2 of the small internal pouches left. I "think" I should be OK for what I have to cure.

I very much appreciate the offer, if it isn't enough I will email.

Do you use/keep much of the High Mountain products on hand?

  • You are in for a real treat.

  • Jason,

I can't remember all the different kinds, this is not all but what I can remember...

Cajun, bourbon, peperoni, original, something that a name that sounded really hot, teriyaki, teriyaki combined with something else, peperoni. There were more but I don't recall all the different ones.

My wife said there was a big box, something between 30 & 40 packages. I am not sure how many were duplicates. Two of them were for goose, but I am not sure if that was a suggestion or if that was the meat it was formulated for.

I only called the District store, the store out by the freeway & bangerter is also a huge store and might be a good place to check. The Harmons District store is also on South Bangerter - across from Daybreak.

I talked with a lady named Cory, I think a grocery manager, she talked with the meat department manager. When my wife went to check out the cashier said they couldn't sell it that cheap and called Cory. Cory approved the price and all went well.

If there is a problem check with Cory, she will be off Wednesday - but the meat manager should be aware of the situation now.

I make at least 6 batches of BBB per year, not counting the holiday bacon. And I usually keep a few extra boxes on hand.

I have the 3 flavors of jerky I like, some turkey jerky I haven't tried yet, and some sausage seasoning too.

I've never tried the BB cure. Have you tried Cabelas? I know they carry Hi Mountain jerky cure.
  • Let me iknow what flavors you like, my wife will be out by that store tomorrow I think. If they have any I will have her pick it up for you.

    You can email me kentja@comcast.net

  • I called Cabelas and the Lehi store doesn't carry the BBB cure. Sportsman Warehouse didn't have any either. I just notices Sportsman has some lump available. I am going to pick up a bag and give it a try.

What part of the valley are you located? I am in Taylorsville area.

I live in Evanston, but we frequent Cabelas. We usually go to Sportsman in Ogden. Hubby prefers Ogden over SLC.
  • Now I remember, Evanston, not sure if I will in the future though.

Not sure how long you have been there but some of my best memories is going to the chuck wagon dinner up your way - ages ago. My dad loved fishing and there was a lake somewhere past Evanston (from Salt Lake). I don't remember the name exactly... Headgon, Hebgon something like that. What I remember is tons of mosquitoes and big fish, however, I was little so the size might be relative.

Then there are all the trips up there for fireworks, not me of course. The Utah Highway Patrol across the street taking Utah plate numbers and then those poor soles getting nabbed on the way back. We used to go up there & Rock Springs to the fair & rodeo's as patrons and vendors. A lot of fond memories.

Where do you pick up your lump and what kind?

LOL, I'll just tell you again.

We moved here from Vernal. Almost 17 years now. The name doesn't sound remotely familiar, not to hubby either.

Yep Utahn's still come for fireworks. The smart ones come early. They're open all year.

Walmart mostly, some Smiths. Come fall I come to Salt Lake, it's usually stocked longer there.
