new egg owner here. finally decided to get one. i was able to find a slightly used demo for about a $200 discount. :woohoo:
heres my dumb question. of course im new so adjusting the temp is a learning experience. when i finally have it set about where i want it and the temp holds steady i open the top to check on the grub and the daisy wheel flys open. is there a way to prevent that?
thanks for any replys.

yes, point the screw that holds the wheel towards the handle, when you open the lid, the wheel will hang in place perfectly, zippylip at work

hmmm, i sure dont have a screw at the top of mine. maybe that was the down side to buying a demo.

Congrats on the egg and welcome to a life altering world of great food.
Yes very simple fix rotate it so the screw is on the handle side of the egg and when you open it should stay in place. When it gets dirty from use it will not move so easy.

It might be a rivit, nut and bolt but no matter what it is the hinge for the daisy wheel and needs to be turned towards the handel.

The daisy wheel is a 3-part affair.
The first part is the main body that fits over the chimney opening on the dome.
Second part is a swinging flap that opens and closes the opening in the first part.
The third part is a spinning wheel that sits in the second part. This part has the "flower petal" openings in it.
The second part is attached to the first with a screw.
The third part is attached to the second part with a screw.
If you have a BGE "daisy wheel" I doubt you didn't get all of the above. -
Congratulations and welcome.
Wondering is your 'daisy wheel' is actually a DFMT or if it is complete with the slider & petal wheel?
On my medium I tightened up the screw to make things a little more tight. Visit the link provided above for the tips on keeping the dome setting correct.
Also, it is a good idea to glance at the DFMT before opening the dome and checking again when you close the dome.
