Jim and Nick's BBQ
Big Hairy Dawg
Posts: 75
On Friday night, we decided to give Jim and Nick's a try. A new location opened recently in Cumming and it has been jam packed ever since. Our neighbors said the BBQ was great and we HAD to give it a try...
So, we piled in the family truckster and headed towards the smell of hickory...
I ordered the brisket and the rest of the family ordered ribs. The brisket was pretty good, very tender and good smoke flavor. The baby back ribs also had a great smoke ring and looked mighty tasty.
However, my 10 year old and my wife both shook their heads and told me that my ribs are WAY better. Since I got my egg, my family has become closet food critics. My wife starting trying to peel the meat off the bone, examining the smoke ring, etc.. Well, the fact is that the ribs were just not very tender. You had to really get after them with a knife to separate them.
So...I decided to prove their point and made some BB's on Sunday. I used a combo of cherry and hickory. I use the 3-2-1 method. (Actually, it was more like 2 out of foil 1.5 in foil and 1 out of foil to baste.)
The ribs were fantastic. It was worth $60.00 eating out to prove that I can feed the family better with the egg for about $15.00.
Funny thing to me is that a couple of years ago, I would have been next in line with neighbors. Funny how a couple of Eggtoberfest's and a new egg will change your perspective...

Great post.
The same thing happens out here. I think after getting the egg & reading the forum one pays more attention to the food as well as the egg is just better.

Dawg, I feel the same way although I will admit I like both Jim & Nicks and Corkey's smoked turkey (in a pinch)

I just don't see how any BBQ Restaurant could give Ribs the loving care we can on our eggs. I am also told mine are better than any restaurant.

I agree with the family that homemade BBQ is the best. That being said, I do like Jim and Nick's. I have eaten in the B'ham, AL location. Their rolls are great and I have had the brisket several times.

As you found out, the egg will turn you into a BBQ snob. As for Jim & Nicks, I think they boil their meat. I bought some of their meat by the pound a few years ago and the foam box the put it in was about half full of water. I haven't been back.

Your story reminds me of mine...
We have a Jim N Nicks and I took my parents there one time for lunch with my wife and children. After I paid the bill and my parents were gone my wife talked about how much money we spent and actually said I cooked better BBQ
and we could had leftovers too. The only thing I haven't figured out how to make are Jim N NIcks cheese biscuits/rolls can't remember which one they are :( We haven't been back there since
