There ie regrettable.....then there is really regrettable.....However, a few of the good offset all of the bad.
Hey do you still have your Bull Cook and Authentic Historical Recipes and Practices I have several of the Herter's books.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
Ahhh, yes, with Nannie's notes! Jon pulls it out and recites from it after too many wines...Herter's kid was a psychologist in Casper...did you ever meet him? His office was in the same building as one Jon was in at one time!

A guy in a bar told me that story once......I wrote it off as BS.
I think one of my favorite Herterisms went something like "people who use considerable red pepper in their foods are almost immune to atomic radiation”.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
Kyle and Jon like the "bacon grease wrapped in leather" as real man food!

It's sure a fun book; our grandma, Nannie, gave each of us a copy...now, we are all experts on every remote subject in the world (of Herter  ) Hope you find renewed fun in it, too

Kari, where in the world do you come up with these. LOL!

This is a good one too, it includes this insight into Kentucky Fried Chicken

I hope everyone made it to this page. I think someone should dig up the patent on this stuff and reintroduce it!

Hershey's even had a cookbook
Our jewel is written by the the head chef of Delmonico's in New York from the late 1800s. Chef Charles Ranhofer. He was the guy that termed the phase "86" when you run out of a dish on the menu.
"The Epicurean" It is more of an ivestment. We don't dare use it!
You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP -
:woohoo: If Martha had dressed like that in the pen, she would still be there!!! never got into puffy sleeves; looks like Pat Schroeder
They do make new prints of The Epicurean; have a chef/friend who swears by it still!! Need to look into getting 1 one day
(his is in French!).

I have that very same meat book in the cabinet collecting dust. I had no idea it was such a welth of information.

I love the Herter's books! He is so opinionated & full of himself, yet very interesting at the same time. We just had a long discussion about him and the guns he designed back in the day while out hunting last weekend.
I made a big batch of what we call Herters Sauce, which is in the bull cook book. Its the one where you boil a bunch of apples & stuff and come up with something that is like Heinz 57 sauce.
I need to make more of that!
