Grilled Simple Talapia

Picked up two Talapia filets at the store. They totaled maybe 3/4 of a pound, so they weren't thick. Here they are prior to seasoning:

After a simple dusting with salt and pepper then painted with olive oil:

On the 500 degree egg prior to flipping:

They were on for maybe five minutes, I didn't keep accurate time:

I will certainly do this again. Pretty cheap, compared to a big steak. Plenty of flavor and some crunchiness from the high heat on the sides, which was awesome.
Lastly, I found these chunks on the fire grate. These are golf ball sized rocks? which must've come from the Cowboy bag of lump, OR Santa left me a present.

The tilapia looks great and a quick, easy and healthy meal. We've found rocks in cowboy lump too. Not a big fan of it but it's all we could find at the time.
-
Was that 5 minutes a side or 2.50 per side at 500? Sure look good.
-
About 2.5 minutes per side. The filets were pretty thin -- 5 minutes a side would've produced some pretty dried out if not burned fish.
-
That's what I thought and why I asked. The Talapia we've always gotten is relatively thin also.

How do you like that Cowboy lump? I did use bge until I discovered RO at Wal-mart. There is an old country store nearby that has that Cowboy stacked to the ceiling. thought about trying a bag. Great looking fish. Helps on the waistline too :woohoo: Dont know about you , but I need it.

I do quite bit of talopia but never at that kind of temp direct. Looks good. Thanks for the idea.

These look great. There's a lot to be said for just using S, P, & EVOO. I bought some Cowboy once. Key word being once. There are some Cowboy fans here, but I'm not one of them. I never made it through the whole bag. It made a nice trash can filler.

The Cowboy brand is the only convenient lump source I have, just a mile or two from the house. I guess I could add the search for better lump to my activity list, but it's really all I've cooked with for about 9 years now.

The WalMart in Birmingham on 280 has Royal Oak. Much cheaper, too.
