Frozen Eggs? Help!

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
I awoke this morning to start setting up my XL for today's cook when I found it to be stuck shut.

I tyried my other Egg and it too is stuck shut. I am in Chicago and can only assume that the eggs are frozen, but this has never happened to me before and it isn't that cold outside. Does anyone know a remedy?!?

Thanks in advance....

Jay

  • Jay,

This has recently happened to me. I live in Northern Wisconsin and my egg froze solid a couple of weeks ago. There are several remedies that work.

For mine, I had lump in the egg so I just put newspaper in through the bottom vent and lit. The lump caught fire and it took only about 10 minutes to thaw.

Another remedy I have seen posted is a trouble light dropped through the top opening. I saw someone did this earlier this week with a 100W bulb and it thawed as well.

Where is Chicago do you live? I am a Chicago (suburb) native from the Willowbrook area.

    Good luck.
  • If they are frozen...Start a fire (fire starter or something of the like) droped through the vent.
I'm having trouble with the hinge in my cold weather.
I hope you only have a frozen gasket.

BBQ Gator, I might have asked you this before but where in WI are you?
  • Luck, Wi. It's in the NW corner, about 80 miles NE of St. Paul, Mn.

I have never ever heard of Luck, WI. Must be a very small town. There's not many eggers in WI that I know of. Bad marketing on BGE's part. You mention anything about a "Big Green Egg" and people look at you like you're speaking a foreign language. :)
