Bobby Flay got me into the ancho chili powder thing about seven years ago.I have purchase it from McCormick the past few years and can no longer find it without taking a 130 mile trip.Been thinking about sending Penzeys a order.Any thoughts?

I have tried a couple of brands and for my taste the Penzey's is my favorite. If they have a store near you you can sample any of their spices.Larry
Aiken, SC. and
Fancy Gap, Va. -
I really like the ancho powder from world spice merchants. it is ground to order and is very rich without being overly hot.

Thank you for the heads up.I checked their site in Seattle Washington and they just showed the whole Chile. Will try to find out what grinds are available.

I like the ancho from Spice Barn.

I lke penzeys version. pretty bold but not hot. you can order online or there is one in Rockville if you ever get over that way. ( warning: this is a bad place for cooks with a impulse buying issue!!)

Call them and they will grind it as coarsely or as fine as you want.
I was in their shop last summer and brought home a bundle of goodies. Neat place. -
Cool. That sounds like a good place and will have to check it out.I called Clements Hardware the other to see if they had a cast iron grill grate in stock but they did not have one.Is it May yet? That will be one of the have to pick up at Waldorf.

I got to where I couldn't find it locally either and made up a batch of my own..but cant find the dang recipe now! I do recall there was a lot more in it than just ground up ancho's...I'll try to find that recipe and post it...

My wife gets virtually all of our spices from Penzey's. Rarely disappointed.

If you find the recipe I sure would like to see it posted.
