Looks great. It is so much better to put a little heart and soul into it and care about what you are doing rather than just going through the motions.
That holds true to so many things in life.
Merry Christmas to you and the family. -
same to you, boss.
I agree. Hopefully they'll remember some of this stuff. I had a hard time taking the Christmas card photo tonight. The older boy says he doesn't "believe" anymore, and it took cajoling and bribery to get him involved. I'll look at the picture and remember the idealized version. He'll see it and remember dad saying , "just get over there and put your arm around your brother or there's no nintendo for two days!"ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
I don't think it is the size of the house that counts but rather the love that resides there. and from what I can see your house is huge.
Happy Holidays -
Stike
Thanks for posting....you've got the season's spirit all the best to you 7 your Family!!! -
Good Looking stuff there Stike! Trying to get in the holiday mood myself
I work retail and typically by the time the holidays actually get here, we are already planning for spring (maybe I should start celebrating Christmas @ Labor Day  ). But I've gotta few days off coming up and the boys (twin 6 year olds) will be with me for the weekend and we are looking forward to decorating the new house. I probably won't go full National Lampoons style, but will give it a good go. -
Stike, I just showed my wife your pic and we both agree it looks great. You know pics like that are what you are going to share with your boys spouses and your grandkids some day around the Christmas dinner table. Mine are 14 and 16 going on 30. I really wish I could turn back the clock.
My wife stayed home from work today and made a mess... ...I mean wrapped Christmas presents. I'm glad it's back to normal now.

Ohhh The annual Stike family Christmas! Looks great. Something about a tree as you get older. When you start out on your own its just something that your supposed to do but as the years go buy things take on a differant feeling. This ornament reminds you of this or that one of that. Always buy a Animal Hallmark one. For years it was "Chris mouse" Now its "Nick the bear w/ Chris mouse". Sometime before Christmas I will hang this years new one and wife has to keep looking to see if its there. Drives he mad. Also at my old job they gave us "naked baby Christmas orniments" every year. Were some kind of expensive desighner thing. Wife hates them but each year I hang all three from the bottom of the tree like some kind of buzzards. Just wouldn't be Christmas w/o the Naked Babies!

A very similar scene played out here today at our ranch. Got decent pics from it....
Gotta love the kids.

-
Same to you, Stike. It's a lovely setting...a perfect New England Christmas.

shopuld have my boys take your girls to their prom. think about it. we have time.

thanks very much. we try. sometimes, though, after four long months of winter darkness, we can get on each other's nerves!
that tree'll be dead in a couple weeks, and we'll still have three months snowed in. total "The shining" situation.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
same to you.
it's getting cold up here. we may need a couple weeks with you say, in February, if it's ok with you.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
Real estate is inexpensive down here, comparatively. And in those shots you are seeing more of the dining room than the foyer - and one of 3, count 'em 3, fully decorated trees. Like I said, do it right for the kids and memories.
As for the kids, I'm up for it, but Doug's son Carson may have a say in it.
And don't count on a dowry..... -
My wife worked retail for many years, through college. Not an easy gig any time, but the holidays.... yikes. It did wear on her, but she's got so much holiday spirit (and spiked eggnog), that she always has "the mood". I usually need some scotch and a fire. The kids certainly helped give the season some spirit.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante

i buy her stuff, and she does all the rest. I get a couple gifts for the boys of course, but she runs the toy factory here. most of the wrapping takes place Dec. 24th, til about 3 am. zzzzzzz I'm toast all christmas morning
place looks great. I didn't have the nerve to pan right to the fireplace. Wife was watching dirty jobs in the far corner tv. hahaha What are you watching there? Rachel Ray?!?!ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
nice naked babies, man. hahaha
thems am cherubs! angels-like! called "putti". No harm or shame in those. bring out where everyone can see them!
second thought, keep the wife happy.
thanks for all your great posts throughout the year.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season, but Rod,I can't wait to show these pics to Carson in the morning :woohoo: He's got the hot's for Malory(yes,an older woman :silly: ),but Megan is just a doll
I feel gay just saying that, but I'm not dammit
Don't judge me

thanks.
not quite the quintessential New England Christmas just yet. had some snow the other day, but it didn't last. You can still see all the leaves driven into the corners of my yard, where i gave up the battle.
need a good covering snow and then it'll be winter. going fishing tomorrow. supposed to be 60s here.
good night...

god knew what he was doing when he gave me boys. i couldn't handle girls. never could, now that i think of it. women are a mystery
hahahahaed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
Truer words have never been uttered. I don't know how I will survive the wife and 2 teenage girls.
I'll be spending a LOT of time on the back deck with whisky and cigars. -
in the 70s, my dad (cheapest dude in the world) spent something like 400 bucks on a high end fake tree. it was amazing. molded branches, each numbered one had to be inserted into a hole on the molded trunk. each little balsam 'finger' brushy thing had to be straightened out after a year in the attic.... even came with a can of pine tree spray. was gorgeous. lasted 10 years maybe.
...holy cr^p, according to inflation, that tree was 1400 dollars in 2008 money? what the heck were they thinking? he only made 400 a week.
hahahaed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
Love your stove!

 Women are a mystery..............
 :silly:
:cheer: :(
That's an understatement if I ever heard one.
:silly: :woohoo:
Thanks, I needed that.
But we can't help but love em.
:P :silly:
Cheers,

Clay- does your tree wake up like that every morning?
-
Jeff we will have to change your screen name to "George Bailey" (Speaking of which- It's a Wonderful Life is playing at the Stoneham theater/playhouse whatever it's called)
I don't know if you already do it or not but you ought to come down to the Common for the tree lighting and the Frosty the Snowman thing. We get there just in time to grab a hot chocolate before they turn on the lights. Then afterward we go across the street to the stone church for Pie and coffee. The kids get to do the Quasimodo-thing and ring the bells. it's a nice little pre-holiday event. This year it wasn't too cold.
That's a fine looking shot of the tree and the room, it really captures the feeling! Sounds like you guys are creating excellent memories.
I prefer a tree that has been decorated by kids. It captures a spontaneous expression that will never be duplicated- like those Tibetan Mandala sand paintings - except the beauty is in the imperfection.
Ellen does the tree decorating in our house because she's so damn fussy it takes the fun out of it. She will let the kids place predetermined ornaments in predetermined locations that she will go back and correct if they fail to follow her instructions. Lot's of memories being created here! It's also a process that takes several days.
you are lucky, but I think you already know that. Enjoy the ride while it lasts (and I think that you are)
Oh, BTW, I got a Mini the other day. You ought to come over and check it out sometime......
-
Sounds like some great family traditions and memories being made there.
I think we are alike sometimes. I keep this in mind when I get in one of those moods.

Merry Christmas Stike -
That's really cool. Do you have the clunker furnace in the basement that requires lots of foul language to keep running? Is anyone asking for a Red Rider BB gun this year?
We just got ours up and finished Sunday afternoon. It's a project every year for sure. It's 10 feet tall and has over 30 long strands of lights on it. Most of our decorations are from our childhood but we add 3 new ornaments every year that have to be something meaningful. This year it was 2 from my sister's trip to the UK and 1 from my trip to the Jack. I'll try and snap some pictures of it and post them.
A very Merry Christmas to you, your wife, and your 2 boys. -
Thanks for sharing Jeff. The tree looks great and I know the boys will enjoy it.My wife is still a big kid and really loves Christmas and all things that come with it.It takes her at least a week to decorate our home but she enjoys every minute of it.
Merry Christmas
