Amish Friendship Bread

Eleven days ago the staff at the Coop gave us a starter for an Amish Friendship Bread. That means we baked bread last night. This is what is called a threefer. Not only do you get a great bread that goes mightyfine with you coffee in the morning, your house smells great as well, and you get to give starters to your neighbors. Thanks to Spring Chicken and Hen for the starter, thanks to the Egger that started spreading the bread, and thanks to the originator of this bread.
Read this morning in David Gelin's book "BBQ Joints"
A handwritten sign in a BBQ joint in Memphis:
"Dear God,
So far today I done alright. I haven't gossiped or lost my temper. I haven't been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or over indulgent. But in a few minutes, God, I'm going to get out of bed, and from then on I'm going to need a lot more help."
Good morning

Grandpa's Grub was kind enough to send me some starter all the way to México, done it 3 times already with the corresponding starter each time which I've given to friends needless to say it's gone wonderful around here..... -
I really like Amish Friendship bread, but I just haven't gotten around to making any starter lately. Every couple of days I say I need to.
-
What is real nice is the way it multiplies - in about six weeks 90% of the folks in Monterrey and Houma will have had it.

Good going Frank. Looks like you followed the instructions well. In fact, too well. It looks fattening, just like mine looked fattening.
I've decided to give it up. I put on so much weight that even my socks don't fit anymore. I still have three or four slices left from the last batch which I'm trying to use to help reduce the inventory of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. But then I've got to think about quitting eating altogether for about nine years, as soon as I scarf down these bon-bons.

I think the Amish Friendship Bread is some of the best I have ever tasted. My wife Claudia made it years ago then got tired of tending the starter. Now that I have the “Egg” I wished I had it again! I make a active yeast version of it called Amish White Bread but it would be fun to compare the two.

Does anyone actually have the recipe for the starter?
-
Actually I don't follow instructions very well (except of course when Maria speaks, Frank listens), so Maria took charge of the baking. I will never be a threat to the local bakery.
-
On the instructions, it says only the Amish know how to make the starter.
However, a month or so ago, I think it was Celtic Wolf who posted and said there was a starter recipe on one of the Eggfest recipes. I'm not sure if it is the same stuff or not.

Danny,
If you want a starter email me your postal information and I will send one over to you.

Leroy,
Put a starter (or two) in the freezer, I froze a Day 1 starter and after thawed it completed just fine.
