With most of the prep done for today's mini feast and nothing to do for a few hours, I decided to swap out my 12 year old firebox. I know the BGE will still work great with a broken firebox, but hey, I like fussing with my egg. So I Emptied the lump and shop vac'ed the base. Removed the pieces and replaced it with the new firebox. Damn, that thing is too white. Reminds me of a picture of Celtic's backside that Flpoolman showed me.
:( :( :( but that's another story..Looking at the burnt remnants of the original base gasket, oh hell why not....That was easy. Only took 30 minutes. Then I remembered something that Fiero had told me that he did.
He put some gasket material under the DFMT. Came out great. Nice snug fit.

Anybody see any issues with the top on the dome with a snug seal?

If done properly, I hear silicon gives a nice finish! Happy T-Day.

I assume that gasket is Cotronics, right? Personally I'd never put it on the dome side since you'll be waving it over your food. Being spun ceramics it is subject to abuse and may break the fibers into miniscule ceramic dust. Same reason I wouldn't have put it on the top either. Sorry, Charlie, just my opinion...

Good point on the fiber issue. The Cotronic's gasket that I use was FDA approved and non toxic. I thought about what you said about the gasket around the dome and I think that I may remove it now or maybe reposition it to leave a 1/2 inch gap. I am not to concerned about the dome gasket. If any minuscule dust gets ingested, it will just pass.:sick:
I have certainly eaten worse things in my life..Good feedback RRP, Thanks for your input..

Taken from their web site. Well at least I got the non-toxic part right. OSHA and FDA are not the same.
    Now ya got me thinking....
Thermeez Fabrics are woven from Industrial Grade, Asbestos
    Free, Ceramic Fibers.
Thermeez 395 is usable up to 1100ºF and Thermeez 397 is
    usable up to 1500ºF.
Thermeez Products are user friendly and unlike fiberglass,
non-irritating to the skin. Non-Toxic, Meets OSHA
    Requirements and Will Not Burn.

That bring up the question, what is the factory gasket made of? It burns, melts, and smells when that happens.
