Check for bees when grilling season starts!

Living in Houston I've had wasps build a small nest under my grill table but never honey bees. A shame they could not have removed the hive, what a waste of honey and bees!

the error here is in assuming there is a start and finish to the grilling season.

as for BGE owners, we probably eat off the grill as much in winter as in the summer.

Hey I agree that weather should never curtail the grilling season but look at the type of grill he's using. Perhaps he was just out of propane for a month or so. :laugh:

For a hive to get that big it was more then a month or so..

We need to start a GET OUT AND COOK campaign.. Stop the so called "end of BBQ season"

It is a shame that a call to a local "beekeeper" was not made. At the high price of honey bees these days I would think any bee keeper would have gladly removed the hive and bees without charge....

As to the start of the grilling season, when did it end?

Last year around this time, I was doing some work on the outside of my home in FL. I am highly sensitive to bee venom but did't pay enough atention to a few that were flying around where I was working. I failed to notice a very small nest nearby and when I got too close, they sent out an agent to "cure" the situation! I wound up in a nearby medical facility for a few hours and then in a hospital until the next day. Those critters can be nasty!!

Havent used my step ladder in a while and hooked my arm under it this morning to carry and about 6 of them nailed me. Next time I'll look first. Glad I'm not allergic but they do sting for a bit.
