Got my starter, thanx alot. The bag opened and some starter oozed out. That should be ok, right? I'll just clean up the out side of the bag and place in a large bowl. Mash it? In the bag, right?
When I had this years ago I dont think we kept it in a bag but in the bowl covered. Same thing ya think?

Yes, make sure the bag is sealed and put it in the sink with warm water and wash it clean.
Mash it then follow the instructions. Keep it in the zip lock bag. When you are at day 10 use a non metallic bowl.
I would make the day 10 batch before you leave for Rome. You are going to have some starts plus your own start.
It would be good if you could give a start to a friend before you leave. Then the friend could give you a start back when you return home.
