Do you Mop your Pork Butt?

Good Morning,
Got up early and put 20 pounds of Pork Butt on the BGE this morning.
I haven't done Pork Butt yet and was wondering if you mop or not?
If so at what time would you start to mop?
any good mop recipes?

I SPRAY A 50/50 OF PINEAPPLE AND APPLE JUICE ON IT EVERY HOUR AND I ALSO EVERY HOUR TURN AND SWITCH MY BUTTS TO PREVENT HOT SPOTS

Big PaPa...I don't mop either. I mix the "bark" in the pulled pork and it adds a great flavor to the end product. (In this neck of the woods we call the "bark" outside meat.) If you do mop though...let us know how it tastes.

I believe in the Carolinas they call it Mr. Brown and Mrs. White.
Is that one 20 pound piece of butt? Even if it is in a couple, I hope you aren't planning on eating it this evening. Rule of thumb is 2 hours per pound at 225-250. -
When we eat out and we choose BBQ we ask for outside meat so if we're in the Carolinas I guess we ask for Mr Brown and Mrs White? (BTW Alabama has some gooood BBQ joints.)

I have not mopped any of the pork butts I've done and they've turned out great. In fact, I'm putting 17 lbs on my egg tonight!!!

Mr. Brown is outside meat. Mrs. White is inside meat. I like an even mix.

Not planning on eating it tonight. just making a big batch to have on hand for when friends show up.

I put almost 8 pounds of butt on the Egg last night, plus a 7.5 that I deboned and cured for buckboard bacon. Big Papa just fired up 20 and you've got 17 going on tonight. Sooooooeeeee Pig! :woohoo:

i do. Although quite new...i have done 6 butts. I put them on at about 11pm, and start mopping in the morning (6am)...every hour with the base to my sauce.
Being from south Texas...last week i did a "Drunk Mexican Butt". I added Tequila and Lime Juice into my drip pan along with Tecate. I then mopped with Salsa Verde lime and tequila. Came out GREAT. Put the leftovers in Enchiladas.
