I take it you are a skeet shooter. Have you ever heard of Markham Park, Skeet Range in Sunrise, Fl?

  • I shoot "Sporting Clays" but shoot some skeet too. I haven't made it to Florida to shoot but plan on it in the next couple of years. Mostly shoot the the clubs around Houston. We have more than 8 within about an hours drive depending which way I go. I do love to shoot a shotgun. I gave up live bird shooting almost all together. They just don't fly enough and I like to hear the gun go off. Hope to get that way some day. Maybe mix it up with an eggfest, my tow favorite things!

Markham Park is a realy nice county park. It has a fine clay range and a "clay trail". I think you hike through the woods and the targets pop out. We use the 100 yard rifle range. I don't hunt but like to shoot long range.
One of these days I would like to go to Barrett's training range and play with a BMG 50 in NM. I have always had great respect for people that can clay shoot. Never tried it.

  • I've shot in a few Florida clubs. Never shot in the one you mentioned. Where is it?

Luvs to shoot clay. One of my big shoots of the year would always be the Browning Briley at the American shooting centers in Bush Park. I had the chance to shoot with Bobby Fowler in the 20 Ga. event. Kinda gave up clay shooting and let my NSCA membership expire. Just didn't have enough AA shooters to compete against. Couldn't get enough punches to move up so I put it on the back burner for the time being.

One of the guys on TS.com mentions that park all the time. I believe that's where he shoots out of. But he is a trap shooter first. From what he says it's expensive. County run.

You are speaking greek to me. I am a long range type of shooter and use thier rifle range. It is only 8 bucks to shoot. That works for me.

  • WOW - I wish we had more than one clay course open to the Public here in Austin. Cap City is good, but takes me an hour to get there.

You must have given up on quail hunting...which I certainly understand given the decreasing #'s since I started on them as a youth. You should try duck hunting...trust me, they are ALWAYS flying...especially teal - I call them the "F-16s of birds"...blazing speed, and make cuts that are unreal.

  • Plenty of AA shooters now, the sport is huge in the Houston area. There are usually enough shooters in each event that the top class shooter, even in AA, gets 4 punches. I am a few punches short of Masters but Nationals is the end of October and I want to stay AA until then for sure. Can't compete with B. Fowler...yet.
The Browning Briley now is held at other venues. Last year it was at Cajun Elite in Lafayette LA. Still one of the best shoots of the year. I see Bobby all the time but don't often get to shoot with him (unless I pay).
Come down and shoot with me sometime. I am home almost half the time and shoot every chance I get.
  • Any eggers that come to, or are in the Houston area and want to shoot some clay are welcome to send me a note. I have extra guns and always have room for more shooters. The ranges are open Wednesday through Sunday. I am home half the time and shoot as much as I can.
