I am in the process of prepping some baby back ribs for todays cook and I can't seem to get the membrane off of one rack of ribs the others went easy but not this one. Can I leave it? The package says to boil them maybe I can do that with this rack. The grill isn't going to hold them all anyway.

Any suggestions?

I am about ready to get a piece of sandpaper after this one.

  • It's no big deal. The ribs will still be good. Some people never remove it anyway.
  • yuck!...boiling ribs!

If you are unable to get the membrane off, no big deal. Just prep them the same as the others and cook em on the Egg...not every one removes the membrane. I prefer to do so and have occasionally found one that I couldn't. Prepare them, cook em, sauce them if you want and then see if you or your guests can tell the difference..

Good luck and trust the Egg!

Good advice, can't add anything to it. Removing the membrane helps in flavoring that side of the rib. Not a big deal.

As said, the membrane doesn't absolutely need to be removed. One fellow who is an old time pro, Billy Bones, does not remove the membrane. Says that keeps the flavor in while cooking bone side down. Then at the end he boosts the temp to 450 to burn the membrane off. Personally, I think I'd just end up burning them that way.

You can score the membrane to help get a little more rub in.
  • Some one posted some time ago a great tip on removing the membrane and it works well for me. Start in the middle and work your fingers under it and then work out to both ends. This works much easier than starting on the end. If a little is left on the end, no big deal to me. There isn't much meat under the membrane anyway.

you sure the membrane is not already removed. When I get the costco or sams three pack, sometimes a rack will have the membrane already removed. First couple times, I tried for 15 minutes to remove something not there......dang. T
