Top notch stuff. It will really amaze you how much you can do with those components.
-

Yeah - about choked at the price of those steaks, but then I had to break in the new Gear right!! They were soo good..
I seared the steaks on the bottom and brought them up to temp using the lg grate on top of the rig. Steaks were perfect. -
Nice looking set up. I remember when my rig looked new out the box, but like said it hasn't been out of the egg since I got it.
-
You will love the bake stone. I do bacon on mine and it's the best I've ever tasted.
I want to try cookies next! -
I looked at your picture again, man does that setup get the meat in the fire. Great sear!
-
It sure does give a great sear!! I think the fact that the grate is cast iron makes the sear so good (or at least leaves the really cool grill marks). I should have taken a picture with the chuckwagon squares (i.e. i flip them twice on the sear to get perpendicular grill marks), but I forgot. My mind was elsewhere, because the tongs I was using weren't working so perfectly - good thing for the welders gloves!! Next investment - better tongs..
-
Just a stupid question: Why did you get your sweet new adjustable rig dirty on this cook? It doesn't look like you needed it! :P
-
I have the spider/rig combo and was wondering if anyone else had a problem using the spider legs up? Mine doesn't seem to fit inside of the fire ring.Owensboro, KY. First Eggin' 4/12/08. Large, small, 22" Blackstone and lotsa goodies.

16 inch Oxo tongs, best tongs on the market in my opinion. Here is the Oxo link on where to buy. I like the soft cushion grip.
almost forgot, glad the boxed arrived. Did fedex delivery on Saturday....T

if the spider is a very tight fit in the fire ring, you have the wrong spider. need to do an exchange...I sent you an email...

Hi,
Yep they sure did, I wasn't expecting it til next week so it was a great surprise to get on a Saturday.
I appreciate your help. You make a great product! -
Hi,
In reality, I did use it!! I seared the steaks on the bottom grate using the spider, then once seared I brought them up to the top of the rig with the Lg BGE Grate. They were some pretty thick steaks so took more time than normal to cook one of them medium... I like mine pretty red so they didn't spend much time on the top shelf. -
Mine came Saturday (by Fed Ex), too. Unfortunately I had to work yesterday and today so I didn't get to try anything out. Maybe tomorrow for lunch. Is the CI grid you have for the S or M BGE? Three steaks on a small grid is pretty good. Need to get one soon.
-
Tom (tjv) mentioned in another post - thanks to his daughter Kelsie for shipping this and even w/Saturday delivery!!!
I did go to the Mothership yesterday in anticipation and bought a small cast iron grid. Then I got the package - Then I bought those big steaks! Fun stuff. -
T:
Thanks for the speedy shipping. Got the rig yesterday. I assume this was an 08 spider I got, but if Ike got the older model and it's too tight in his egg and he has to send it back, can I swap for his? My egg is older so it will fit mine. Thanks. By the way, you make some eggcelent pieces. Work prevents me from trying the rig out yet, but I plan on giving it a good coat of smoke soon. -
The steaks look great. Once I pick up the CI grid, they will be the first thing I cook.
-
send Ike an email...if ya'll want to swap, works for me. twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc.

What size is that CI grid? Also, what size is the stone? You don't use a platesetter for indirect?
Will the person who said they make bacon on the stone please give directions.
Thanks! -
From tjv's post (he is manufacturer of the Spider and Adjustable rig), we got the official recommendation to use a Small BGE Cast Iron Grid. He mentioned that the older spider could take a medium => scroll down in this post and I think he mentions that.
I also used a small Pizza stone that i intend to use for indirect cooks (Or I will use my platesetter). The thing is I now have more options.
For a long cook with 4 Pork Butts - I likely will not use the plate setter for that but use the pizza stone on the spider with a 14" drip pan on that and use two levels on the adjustable rig - at least that is my train of thought..
