My lid is stuck, I need suggestions?

I built a pretty big fire and left it going for about an hour, and I think I melted the gasket. The lid is stuck. I have tried prying with a screwdriver to free it up. I have the xl.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated.....Has this happened to anyone else?

    It is cool now, but it was stuck when, it was hot as well. I wonder how big a mess I have on my hands... I chipped some of the porcelain attempting to pry open.. my next thought is to have a couple of people help pry at the same time?

    start where the handle is and use a metal paint scraper. Wiggle it between both gaskets. Using the handle as a starting point, work clockwise for a few inches, the counter clockwise a few inches then repeat.
    This will work! sorry to hear about your chips, save them and get some JB weld.

    You can find many suggestions by searching the archives. The most frequent is to build a small fire inside by dropping fire lighters (the wax-impregnated cubes) through either the lower vent or through the top. Either will warm up the Egg and soften the gasket. Often that will be sufficient to release it but sometimes its necessary to slide in a thin (!) blade such as a cheap dinner knife, hacksaw blade, etc., and work it around the gasket. As you already know, a screwdriver isn't the best way to accomplish this, nor are any other prying tools that rely on leverage against one side of the Egg.

    If you can get a fire going again the dome might loosen as it heats up.

    Sorry for the bump, but which JB Weld are you using: the tube type or the premixed clay type (the one you slice off a chunk and then blend)? Is this the same type folks use to repair cracked pizza stones and fire-rings/boxes? I need to fix my fire box before it splits in half.
