Darian time to get off the Island. Ya got a whopper coming with 25+ foot surges expected up the ship channel. Ike vs. Galveston Island, my money is on Ike, so time to book.

Come on up to Denton, plenty of room. T

Leroy said earlier today that Darian beat feet some time ago.

  • hey tom, i'm surprised you haven't set up a couple of eggs on the side of I35 and started selling hot dogs and lemon aid to all the evacuees headed north!!
  • I already told him he and Lara could come here but he said he already had a place to hide out. Maybe I should have asked were his 'hideout' was.

You're right though, Galveston is going to take a major hit. For that matter, all of us are. And except for picking up loose items or getting out of town there's not much we can do about it.

Even so, we're sticking around. So are our neighbors. We might be reverting to "rustic" living pretty soon. Been there, done that. Like "plus" living better.

The Coop looks deserted. Unbelievable how much stuff we accumulated and hung in that place. I don't know if I can ever put it back like it was. But I've got photos to show me the way.

I guess I'll spend Saturday and Sunday watching everyone's life fly by. Worst that can happen is I join the fly by.

Even bought propane today for the first time in three years. Just in case...

House is full of stuff from outside and in the Coop. Hope I didn't bring in some frogs with the plants.

Life is never dull here at the Chicken Ranch.

BTW - here's a "it's a small world after all" true statement", but to make a long story short our close friend for 25 years from IL who lost his wife to cancer while living in Galveston 11 years ago met and married a new gem a couple years later. Since my friend and Darian were both employed by the U of T, medical school there when they needed a photographer they hired Darian. 7 years or more later via emails about this and that this whole real story came to light! See what I mean about a small world?!!!

dammit Leroy - I really wish you and Judy would get out there!! I am really not liking what I'm seeing on the news.

If you can make it to an airport - our home is wide open to you (and anybody else looking to get out for that matter)!!

I'm worried about you guys!!! :(

I know what you are going through Leroy and Judy. We rode out our first hurricane with Gustav. Before our daughters grew up and moved away we always evacuated, no questions asked. I too am in a quandary as to how to repopulate the hen house after we emptied it for Gustav. We are praying you don't suffer major damage.

I've been traveling, just got back. Glad Darian got out. How about you and Judy come on up. We'll have a precoop party. Heck, we're only expecting 40-50mph on the wind, no telling about the rain though...... T

  • Just the invitation we were looking for. We'll put our house on the market next week and come move in with y'all LOL... We can do housework for our keep.

We don't like what we're hearing either. But we've decided to ride it out and take our chances. If the electricity is out for very long we'll just load up and go to New Orleans where Judy's sister lives. They have made a science out of surviving hurricanes.

Thanks for the offer though. One day soon.

  • What and miss all the excitement???

If Jeff Gordan can drive 200 mph around a track and smile the whole time, why do we get so bent out of shape over a little 'ol 150 mph wind? Oh yea, the wind is bigger and apparently has a better pit crew.

  • Well, in Long Beach, Mississippi I guess you would be prone to vamoose at the sign of a hurricane. The area has been picked on lots of times with the same results: Hurricane Wins again.

    Thanks for the help.

  • Here's an even better idea. Peddle-Potty. Just get a three-wheel bicycle with a porta-potty on the back and peddle up and down the freeway. You wouldn't need a food permit this way.

    You're welcome.
