it can draw power from a 12VDC source

Both guru and stoker can be powered by 12vdc battery - or 2 6vdc in series.
You will need to rig up a cable. Most any device that uses a ac brick converter to dc can be powered by battery. Just look at the back side of the brick and check the polarity and volt optput and go from there.
If the device is something other than 12v you can get a dc converter from radio shack which has a switch from 12v on down. Those unites usually have different connection tips which will also let you change polarity if necessary.

The Guru is powered by a brick, but it can also be powered by 12 volt DC. BBQ Guru sells, (but so does Radio Shack) a cigarette lighter plug for the Guru. You can then buy one of those 12V emergency starter batteries for $40-60 with a cigarette lighter socket and run the Guru like that. Good luck! The Naked Whiz

If one were to buy one of those lead-acid battery emergency starters with the power inverter built in, at either 300A or 600A (like http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443271701&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672502&bmUID=1220535215025&deptid=1408474396672395&ctgrid=1408474396672406&subctgrid=1408474396672502, how long would the guru run? Will it go for 18 hours, no problem? I would think so, but does anyone use this sort of rig?
Just curious,

yup - that's how I do it!

yup - see below.
I've gone 25 hours and it will knock the power rating down to "low" by that time from a start of "high" per the built in meter. Just be sure to recharge after use - never store it in a drained state.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
