I just posted a message a half an hour ago on the forum and I see that it has been removed--has anyone had experience with this? I don't understand what's going on here.

If the link Mike showed is the post in question.
Let me start by saying what I always say. There really isn't a need to get the egg above 600 degrees anyway. Steaks sear quite nice at 600.
However, if you insist. Make sure the large opening in the bottom of the firebox is aligned with the bottom vent. Make sure the holes in the fire grate are not clogged up with small pieces of lump. Lastly bottom vent wide open and the top vent off.
Now keep in mind if you exceed 700 degrees the chances that your gasket will be toast are greatly improved. You chances of a flashback when dampening down the egg have also greatly increased.
You can clear the grate holes by using a wiggle stick. This is simply a metal coat hanger or metal rod that has a 90 deg bend on one end that you can gently poke up through the holes with. The ash too will not work. -
you had replied to an old message that was archived back early in the month. unless you choose the last 25 for viewing you'll have a problem knowing where the ball is since kickoff...Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

What CW said and I also don't think you had enough fuel, fill the fire box completely to the bottom of the fire ring. -RP

What altitude are you cooking at?

Yes, you're absolutely right. I've figured out what I did wrong. As a newbie to this forum I just wanted to make sure I hadn't asked a stupid question or offended someone.

Thank you for figuring out my mistake!

Like Ron said, you replied to a post 3 weeks old. Start another thread next time. You'll be fine.
Did you get the help you needed on your temp control for steaks? I think CW and AZRP covered it well.

sounds like you have it figured out...

Oh, thank goodness...I thought we were having an outbreak of THIS on the board!
