MAPP torch

So with a month of egging experience, I have tried all the following methods of lighting:
* oil-soaked paper towel
* paraffin/sawdust starter sticks
* chimney starter and dump on top of lump
* chimney starter dump on grate, then pour on more lump
They all work fine (last one gets going pretty quick actually), but I was in a hurry today and wanted to cook some burgers. Bought a MAPP torch on the way home to try it out.
WOW, is that fast! 15 minutes from cold to 600F.
I think I'll try some bread on the weekend. Haven't baked in years and the egg is a good reason to try again...

Not that you need it but if you want 600 in 5 minutes or less try the weedburner.

I mentioned it to the wife and she says I'm not allowed to have a flamethrower. :(

Love the MAPP, also love the no knead bread recipe. Plan ahead if you do it.

If you want to get to 600° within a couple of minutes then move on up to a flame thrower (weed burner).
When it is cold out here (below 0°) it sure is nice to have the egg ready to cook.

Kind of an old thread....but I just picked up the Berzomatic 8000. How long do I torch the lump? Do I just keep it going until my lump is flaming?Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html
