Hello all - I'm hoping for some gear suggestions and pointers.
I just got a bonus check. And my wife (TOWMBO, The One Who Must Be Obeyed) signed off on a BGE to adorn our incoming new deck and backyard re-do. Woo!
But oh noes, what setup should I get??
We entertain a fair amount and my family & friends can really eat. Plus the UC Davis Meat Lab (oh, that's a much better story than it sounds, trust me) has some great deals on meats in bulk. And I want to cook for the neighborhood get-togethers, plan to have this Egg forever, etc., so I'm fairly decided on an XL.
But the sides! The accompaniments! What about the sides?? What to get, and... WHAT SHOULD IT COST?
I checked out a Barbecues Galore in Vacaville over the weekend - they've got a Large in a BGE cart set up with pride of place in their front display window.
They're asking $729.99 for a Large and $449 for a Large's BGE cypress table with wheels. $1,079.99 for an XL by itself.
Are these good Egg prices?
I'm also planning on a platesetter, an XL Flip Ring, Hanger & Grid combo from eggcessories.com, a Third Hand and a Billy Bar. Plus a new Dutch oven, cast iron griddle and some kind of pizza stone.
Would LOVE to know more about the all-metal tables pictured on PBM's BBQ Camping website... are those homemade?
I've seen a local flyer talking about "OPS Eggs Benedict" for tables but can't find a word about that on the 'net. Anyone know anything there?
If anyone has any suggestions about this gear & plan please let me know. I'd particularly love to know if Barbecue Galore's Egg prices are in the right range.
Thanks!

Prices seem inline to here in Maine, but the value is in the dealer. If there is a great dealer and he is a little more it is an investment believe me. The dealer we had in Florida when my parents got their egg was tops. they were a little more but they took care of their customers and every time we stopped in there was tips and samples and something for us to try. there is a cost of doing business and a cost they need to get to stay in business. it is a fine line, I know I walk it everyday. but service is what makes people drive hours to get to our shop past other rug hooking studios. so if there is a choice between a couple of them, service would win for me if it was a few more $$ just my 2 cents

Hmm, found something about "OPS" - Outdoor Polymer Systems. See http://www.outdoorpolymers.com/#Main for a tantalizing Egg table concept. Guess I need to head over to Sierra Select to see what they have in person.

I'm not sure how close it is but Eggs by the Bay should be able to help you out.

Don' put the cart (table) before the horse.
Get your Egg, cook for a while and your table ideas will come to you. (IE Harry Potter wand). After cooking for a while you will know what you want in a table.
I assume your local dealer is reputable, buy your Egg from them.

Two pieces of very good advice above.
1. work with an independent dealer. bbq galore just
filed chap 11. In Austin, they are more expensive
have little knowledge and act like they really don;t
give a s--t.
2. Wait until you are set up and running, you will
probably change your mind several times before
deciding on what your needs are for a table.
welcome and good luck

You should check out Oaks Hardware in Fair Oaks. I am interested in another Egg too and they seem to be resonable. If he doesn't have one in stock, he could get it within a day. He also is an Egger with a decent selection of Eggcessories and DP rubs. Also, Emigh's Harware in sacramento carries the BGE, but when I went there, they didn't have any accessories (or at least I could'n t see them).

Allen (Ike Witt) Who did you talk to at BBQGalore....I bought my egg there (Sunset Valley location) 5 weeks ago and had great service. I did find that "Patrick" is the only knowledgable person there about the egg. I paid $699 for the Large and it came with bunches of stuff; Bag of BGE Coals, starter cubes, 2 bags of season chips, and all the other normal stuff, DVD, etc.... Table for the Large egg was 399 for cypress (48 in)
Always call now to see if Patrick is on duty. Had not heard about Chapter 11....thats for that little tidbit.
KERNS - you'll not regret your purchase - and everyone is right, got where the service is good and the salespeople are knowledgable, even if it costs a bit more. BBQ Outfitters here in Austin is best place really, just so far for me to drive. 20 miles verus 4.2 miles to BBQ Galore in Sunset valley.
Good luck and come back...lots of good info here and the forum folks are great.

Contact Smitty, he is a great dealer up in the bay area. He puts together Eggs by the Bay. He also has a competion team.

I'm with some of the others. It's about service. I bought my Large 2 weeks ago for nearly $100 less than the one you're looking at. But the dealer is just not that good. I unstuck a gasket in 3 days, and they didn't even offer to order me one. They didn't have any, so I had to roll to another dealer.
The other dealer was full blown retail on everything, but they setup and deliver free. If I had it to do again, I'd have bought from the other dealer for more money. -
Caution should be used with BBQ Galore, They closed all the stores in Florida. I also heard they were or had closed all the corp stores. Don't know what the deal is on them. I did a google on them and they seem to be open in other places. Trust your gut.You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP

The Egg price seems about in line with what you'll find at the typical dealer, but the table strikes me as high. I'd get the Egg from your dealer, but I'd look around online for a better deal on the table. I got mine at Barbecues.com for under $300 delivered, but they don't seem to carry it right now.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome, the advice and especially for the Eggs By The Bay pointer... they're the first dealer I've seen with a pricing list online. Very useful.
Cheers,

The numbers seem pretty high to me actually... North East Ohio numbers are no where near that. L-BGE $609.00. L-BGE with a nest and a 20 lb bag a lump for $670.00 (combo special). Not sure exactly where the XL is at but it is not over $900.
I just bought the Large and Nest combo and am planning on building my own table. -
My first suggestion is to slow down and take a breath. Those proces seem ok, but take it all in. I would get a platesetter, pizza stone, themapen and a good remote temp guage first. get to know your new baby, then start to build your extra's.
just my 2 cents....Bone Daddy's Competition BBQ & Catering -
Also...build your own table. It is fun and is a great conversation piece.Bone Daddy's Competition BBQ & Catering
