What do I do about mold???
Help! We've had a lot of rain in our area, and my egg was safely covered with my big green egg cover. I hadn't used the egg in over a month, but I took the cover off to use it this week. I opened my egg, and there is a LOT of mold growing all over the inside of my egg. I lit some charcoal and let it heat all the way up in hopes of killing it, which I think I did, but the old mold is still there. I don't want to cook in it like that! How do I get the mold out?

Gagged,
I had this problem at one time. Just fire her up and let it all burn off. Get her up to 500* and it will go away. Not sure why, but mine stopped coming around. Is your egg new? Mine was when it first happened to me. I would not worry too much about it... it should stop. Just don't let you guests see it.

<p />Gagged,[p]Mold? Yes, I have that. Living this close to the Atlantic ocean I have lots of humidity (and rust). The closed cooker will atrack mold if it stays moist in there. Try to avoid mold by "snuffing" out the fire and opening the dome the next day or two to air it out, or leave the top off and vent open. You can also remove your cooked meal and shut down the top and bottom vents to just cracks and allow the cooker to cook off the moisture left in there for an hour or so. [p]Once mold does form, just heat it up, like Wardster said, and brush it with a brush. The 400°+ heat will kill it and the brush will remove the traces of it. Let it cook for another 10 min and you will be fine. I don't bother with the side walls or anything other than where the food sits - ie: the grids only. [p]Tim
