mini temp control
cerama
Posts: 5
I just purchased and cooked 1st time on a mini. I am used to the temp. control after cooking and shut down to a slow reduction to out of coal fire within 20 to 30 min. This mini seems to stay hot (400 deg. or so) for quite some time eating up the charcoal. Is this normal for the mini. I noticed the air control door is not as tight as my medium. Any help is appreciated. My email is mcolucci001@rochester.rr.com.
Thanks

I noticed on my mini the ceramic dome is a bit too big and the vent door & screen is loose.
It never did seem to take a longer time to shut down. I will pay more attention the next time I fire the mini up.
I did use some gasket material, two layers actually, put a strip of gasket material around the ceramic dome. It is now air tight when I put the ceramic cap on. I am about to take a piece of gasket material on the sliding door so it will be tighter and won't come out of the tracks when opening.

Ours shuts down pretty much like the others. maybe see if you can tighten the draft door a little to seal it. At least it is not burning much lump

Are you using the ceramic cap or the daisy wheel? -RP

Just another thought after reading maineegg's post.
You can use some foil to line the inside of the ceramic cap which will also restrict any airflow into or out of the dome.

It's a litle trickier to do on a MINI but can you wedge a dollar bill in between the gaskets and check to make sure it's tight all the way around. (edited) It should read close the dome on a dollar bill and try to pull it out. I had a MINI and the gasket would leak terribly until I checked the clearance and tightened it up. If yours is leaking air in through the gasket it will continue to burn.

Mike why didn't I say that...

LOL...
Yesterday was nuts. Early we had to go out, then got back home. A different son, wife and grandkids came over and we visited, played and had a great time.
Only after they left did I get on the forum. An hour or so the A1-57 crew came over and we spent most of the afternoon, evening with them.
Other than drowning the steaks it was a fun day for my wife and I.
