Major Burger Flareups. What to do?

We had a cookout and I did burgers on the Egg. I had about 6 or 7 of them on there. I cooked at around 425. I had flareups that were out of control. I had to use a spray bottle to get mellow it out. Is this what most people experience with burgers? If not, how do you avoid it?
