Hi Folks,
I have NEVER owned a smoker. I have a large Weber gas grill, which I keep on my wooden front porch (I have a large wrap-around porch). I'll probably be buying a BGE soon, and my question is: Will it be safe to keep my BGE on my front porch next to my grill? (Which is where I'd prefer to keep it). Also, in consideration of the cleaning requirements of the BGE, does it even make sense to keep such a thing on a wooden (covered) porch?
Thanks a lot for your kind assistance.

its probably safer than the gasser if you get the lower vent screen which i believe they come with now. BUT both can burn your house down, a friend of mine lost all the skin from his elbows down and part of his house from a grease fire in a gasser, no grill belongs on a deck and many towns have ordinances against grills on decks.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Mine is on my front porch in a table. Keep in covered when not in use.

Put the egg on a paving stone with the egg feet between tne egg and the stone.

and what would you put the gasser on. just my opinion but grills dont belong on wooden decks attached to houses, anything can happen, the bottom can crack (this has happened with many ceramic grills) and sparks can fall out. lit lump can roll out of the bottom vent and the wind can push it were it wants to ( a member here lost his house that way). lots can happen and some cooks are happening while we are sleeping. ive had gasers explode in grease fires in the past, they collect grease, something that doesnt really happen in an egg but is still a concern.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I don't know about this. I keep my Weber far away from my BGE's now. The Weber developed an inferiority complex from lack of use and became increasingly hostile and sinister in it's motives. I eventually had to remove the Weber altogether much the EGG's relief. You will just have to see how your gasser and new EGG get along, but I don't think any EGG is safe next to a gasser. :woohoo:

While new to the egg, not new to BBQ and fires....fire is fire! doesn't matter where you put it, it is unpredictable...so use caution and have respect.

I’ve GOT to agree with bmlove here….
Fire is fire! And uncontrolled / out of control it is a major disaster and unpredictable at best…No doubt!
I have fought a few brush / forest fires in my days and a few years ago, I had a cabin on fire. None of these fights were ANY fun, but thankfully I won them.
I pray I NEVER have to fight a house (epically my house) fire and do take great precaution.
However:
Right now I have my Egg in a wood table on the supplied feet (which will soon be retro-fitted with fire brick and a slab of slate under the Egg) on a wood deck (which will be retro-fitted with pavers, as money permits) and I do worry some, as I have seen holes burned in decks from many a sort of grill.
OTOH, my wife smokes out there too…Which also causes me fits! With that…I also hope to retro her with a “BUTT-CAN”!
