marinate=to soak something in a liquid for flavor(past tense "marinated" as in "i marinated it in marinade..."

marinade=the liquid you marinate with (not a verb, no such thing as "i marinaded it in marinate")

barbecue= food that has been prepared by smoking low and slow. NOT a synonym for "cookout". you don't go to a barbecue, you eat barbecue. (not easy for Northerners to understand)

slab of ribs= the whole chunk of ribs (11 to 14 ribs)

rack of ribs= something you get when cutting a slab into two or three pieces "cut me a rack of ribs from that slab"

steak=a slice of meat from a primal or a roast

stake=something you stab thru a vampire's heart
