Plumbing Fix
Spring Chicken
Posts: 10,255
I am beginning to wonder if my next assignment will be that of a plumber. There must be a reason that I am getting so much hands-on experience in dealing with plumbing emergencies, including the most recent one that involved the Big House here at the Chicken Ranch.
As reported earlier, the tubular infrastructure of the main abode developed a serious blockage problem that no amount of %&*@$@&!ing or bottled product would correct. Then I applied the "Real Men Use Big Tools" concept and within a brief period of time after returning from the neighborhood rental place I had achieved the "SQUEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRKKKKKK" I had been seeking. Problem fixed.
I can't help but wonder how much I will be able to do after I no longer need pain pills to function. Come on Tuesday. It will be a new day dawning.
Life is never dull here at the Chicken Ranch.

I've got a tiny plumbing problem: a pinhole leak in a copper pipe carrying hot water. I know it will need replacement soon but is there a quick way to stop it? I tried plumber's putty but can't get it to adhere to the pipe. Until the plumber comes, I have to dump a turkey roasting pan full of water twice a day!

Just a guess JB weld?
-
you can wrap rubber around it and use a pipe clamp....
don't you watch the dealiest catch? they fixed (temp) a 6" pipe under pressure with a bit of rubber membrane and a pipe clamp.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
Take a piece of wide rubber band and wrap it around the pipe covering the leak, then put a hose clamp over it. -RP

An inexpensive soldering iron, some solder and some flux will fix it in a few seconds. Much cheaper than calling the plumber.

Drain the water out of the line first or use mapp gas.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think even I can work with these. And thanks to Spring Chicken for giving me a thread to hijack!

Try a product called Seals All (SP?). Dry the tubing off, apply to pipe, let dry apply a little more and wrap with electricians tape and give that a another coat over the tape and a bit of tubing.
I did that many years ago to one and it is still holding. -
above recommended works well the hardware stores sell rubbber lined clamps specifically designed for the purpose. i keep 2 on hand to use till i get around to fixing.

The best bottled product you can use and you can make it yourself with caution is vinegar and baking soda.Had a close friend that owned a restaurant and did that and holy crap the stuff flew up to the ceiling. The clog was cleared out and thank goodness no food was in the area of the dish washer.Sure as hell sounded neat though.
